Default 8100 Cingular Vs. TIM (Brazil)

Please Login to Remove!

I was living in the US so I bought a 8100 there and was using CINGULAR as a Carrier.

I moved back to Brazil and unlocked the phone here and Im using TIM Brazil as a carrier.
The main problem is that now I can´t use the Browser and Email service.

Sorry for the dumb question but my IMEI or PIN seems to be locked to Cingular (I can only access BIS via Cingular page) I tried to register via TIM Brazil homepage but it gives me an error.

I already tried to send the Service Book again to my Pearl but nothing happens.

What should I do?

That is a very hard question... making sure that you unlocked your Pearl is the only thing that I would be asking. Maybe you should as the provider there? TIM?

Well I think I followed the correct unlocking procedures.
I can make and receive phone calls, send SMS, but I cannot use email and browser service.

Funny.
I am from Brazil too. TIM Brazil will soon launch their own service with the Pearl. I am not sure if they support the email specifically, but I know they have the data plans, which are very expensive. Get on the 5 MB plan, i believe its at about 170 reais, or is that the 1 GB plan?

Regardless,

then try this service which I directed to my dad and others in brazil on Blackberry and Sony Ericsson, etc devices:

Free Mobile Push Email - Consilient Push

tell me how it works out.

for browser get Operamini:
http://www.operamini.com/

then go into options, advanced options, tcp and type the following:

APN: Tim.br
User: tim
pass: tim

make sure you hit the (ui) key twice to get the i on the user and password.

remember, get the data plan, and dont call them, they are idiots. PERIOD

Obrigada!
I´ll try to call TIM´s support (but I think it won´t work).
Do you know the setup for TIM´s WAP config?

I think I´ll need to sell this phone on eBay....

Ok...I called TIM Brazil Support...
Bad news....it seems that they cannot register the IMEI in their system, as it is a Cingular IMEI.

Geez...I have a Lamborghini Gallardo without tires!

I´ll sell my phone in eBay.

Totally agree. TIM support is the awfulxxx8230;

I bring a 7290 from AT&T in US and unlock it here in Brazil. I am sending/receiving SMS and calls but the data acess is really not working. This should be working using the TIM WAP service which I have.

I set up the TCP as you said but data access still do not work.

I checked that there is one Option called Host Routing Table (HRT) which has the APN as blackberry.net, although it is in TIM network. It also has a IP/Ports (206.51.216.192:19401:9400) and I can not change/edit any of this values/data.

What you means as "make sure you hit the (ui) key twice to get the i on the user and password."

Any other ideas on this?

This is correct Atari_Girl. You need to delete your BIS account from the Cingular Web Service. If your device is still registered there it wont be able to be registered anywhere else. This sounds to be the problem you're having.

Once you remove your PIN IMEI infor from the Cingular site giver it a few hours and then try to register on the TIM homepage.
Once you do this you should be able to send the current TIM Service Books to your device and you should have data.
Let us know how that turns out.

Unfortunatly, MooseNYC is wrong. Sorry.

TIM Brazil does not work like the USA. They buy 1000 phones and in those 1000 phones they have the certain IMEI numbers that are set only for their system and only those 1000 phones will work the way you want them to properly work.

Now, what you need to do is the following.

Go to operamini.com and download it to your computer. Load it via Desktop Software for the phone, once its on your phone go to the TCP settings.

Set it like this:

APN: Tim.br
User: tim
pass: tim

When I say hit the (ui) key twice what I mean is make sure it spells out Tim.

Just type TIM and it should work out fine.

Understand?

Also make sure when you go into Options>Network> Make sure it has the Data services set to On

Angry

My PIN is free (I was able to set all my preferences at BlackBerry Internet Service) but TIM Brazil refuses to activate my BB8100 (was from T-Mobile) just because I didn't bought from them. Claro Brazil said that there was no problem but I didn't tried them yet.

BTW I called TIM opened a Customer Inquiry and got it's number. Them I called ANATEL and opened a new Customer Inquiry saying that TIM Brazil was only activating the BB the sell and AFAIK that is illegal, what in Brazil is called "venda casada". Now I am waiting for a feedback from TIM and another one from ANATEL. If this don't solve I will switch to Claro.

BR,

All carriers that serve my region (TIM included) are really bad.

Why would they improve anyway? They treat us like crap and we still buy their stuff. They have nothing to worry about.
