I downloaded the Gmail app and honestly, I don't think it's great because

a) it doesn't have a visual indicator you have email in your inbox versus the gmail setup via the BB *does*

and

b) It doesn't automatically get your emails like the BB does for your usual gmail setup

Am I missing something? I understand it shows you in gmail threaded form but otherwise...?

You are correct in both statements. People like it because it acts more like the actual GMail web site. I personally don't have it installed, though.
