Does anyone else have this issue? While I am talking on the phone I am unable to send out texts on my device. I have the new 4.5 software on my device also. Just wanted to know if there is a fix for this or if this is a common problem on Sprints network. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

When I try to send a text I usually get the little clock looking symbol, then it will either throw back the red X, or it may go through after I hang up. Depending on how long I'm on the phone.
That's odd. I have a Sprint 8330 running 4.5.0.131 and I don't have this issue. I just tested by calling my voicemail and then sending myself an SMS. It went through and I received it all while on the call.
What OS are you running and have you tried removing the battery for 30 seconds while the device is powered on?

I have the same issue, what I found was that if I was talking to someone on the same Sprint network mobile-to-mobile, I can send text to them or someone who is also Sprint. But when I'm talking to a friend who is on AT&T and try to text the same person I was just talking to on Sprint, it doesn't work.
So I'm guessing if you call your voicemail and text yourself, it's going through the same signal/channel so it'll work.
I could be wrong, but that's what I have noticed so far while playing around with it. I am also running 4.3.0.127, but I'm definitely for sure I can text anyone who is with Sprint while talking to someone with Sprint.

Interesting observation. I just called a landline and sent a text to my friend (T-Mobile) and it went through as well.

Quick update: As long as I'm on the phone with someone with Sprint, I can text anyone. I just called a family member who is on Sprint and I text my friend with Verizon and AT&T and works just fine. However, talking to my friend on AT&T, no luck.

I have the same issue, but...it works only for the first few times I send a text while on the phone. But after a few minutes, they don't go thru anymore. They just get the "X", and do not go thru.
In order to send SMS while on the phone using Sprint, do the following:
1. Press Menu Key
2. Select 'Conference Call'
3. Press Menu Key
4. Select Send SMS Text <any contact>
5. Scroll Up so cursor is over the name
6. Press Menu Key
7. Select 'Change Recipient'
