Default BBM Messenger Buddy Section or Social Networking Section

Please Login to Remove!

When I first started with BBF I saw it as a highly technical site. As technology changes, we evolve. I look at data/activity. I am not a user of BBM Messenger Buddy Thread but many people are based on the activity. With the increased features of BBM 5.0, the idea of groups has become popular.

Having one thread, sort of makes the thread unmanageable. You may want to consider a section where people can seek or promote a group as opposed to placing in just one thread.

I am not changing the content just adjusting the platform. It will also make it easy to monitor.

I agree with this as well.

It would be nice if there was a BBM section, you could move the existing buddies thread there, then other's could start new threads for certian groups or certian people looking for certian types of friends to talk to.

Thank you. I think this would also enhance traffic on this site.

A "Social Users" type forum wouldn't be too bad, I think CB has one already.

I must admit I am not a big BBM'er Not enough time in the day LOL

I'm not a big BBM person as well, I use it to talk to some work friends and to keep in touch with others that have blackberrys as well.

Crackberry does have a rule where no under 18's can post. If we were to do the same, would this site impose the same rules?

And I agree with Adam about site traffic, things feel slow here lately (Or I'm just on too much)

How would you enforce this? I can be 14 and say that I am 18. I don't think enforcing the age is feasible unless you have some users that are honest about their age. But as soon as others notice people are being banned (whatever action is taken against the minors), I believe they would lie about their age to prevent the same fate.

True. I was just wondering if we would try to implement the same.

I've seen threads started where it is requesting High School kids for friends, and when they get threatened with the thread being closed down they state that you can be 18/19 in highschool.

I'm worried about legal implications of users trying to pick up minors and the site not trying to prevent it.

They already have a thread on this idea. All I am asking is to expand so it can be easier to monitor.

What are the steps to getting this approved and implemented by a moderator?

If it is a no go for specific reason, could we also hear why?

This would have to be implemented by the forum owner. Moderators do not have the ability to do this.

There is no practical or enforcable way to prevent this for reasons already noted above. The only laws I know of about underage users applies to under 13, that is COPPA. Also historically website owners have not been held liable for this kind of thing. Do you recall the case of the girl who committed suicide after being bullied on MySpace? MySpace was not held liable and even the woman who created the fake profile to bully the girl was not held criminally responsible.

My sense is that if the moderator group is receptive to the idea they may present it to Tom. I emphasize "if"

Yes, that has been done already. It has been posted as a suggestion to Tom.
