Question 7130e Reboots on its own

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,
First off I want to say I love the functionality of my 7130e. I upgraded from 7250 in Dec 05. I run my own consulting business and travel a lot so having the tethered modem for PC internet access is critical and an awesome tool, not too mention the fact it is virtually free as compared to having a BB/phone and a pc-wireless card.

Here is my only beef - the damn thing does a soft reboot on its own completely randomly. Verizon has been totally cool about this and has replaced my unit 4 times and my wife's 2 times since Jan. Generally it is not an issue, because it only takes a minute or so to do the reboot, but it clearly indicates an unstable operating system. It also gets more frequent as time goes on and in fact one time, my unit completely froze! Could not do a hard reset (seems dumb that you can only do ahard reset via key commends) or a soft reset and once again Verizon shipped me a unit overnight.

Anyone know the cause of this? Verizon says they are not aware of any fix for this. (BB did fix the "data connection refused" message in May. That one would not let the unit recognize the high speed network, thus you could not get emails or use the tethered modem.)

Are you running the latest OS 4.1.0.268 from Verizon?

Try removing the battery and reinserting it. That doesn't work for a reset?

Third-party apps may be the culprit.

Default For what its worth....

I tried a 7130 from Verizon for 2 weeks prior to getting a 7130 from Sprint. The Verizon 7130 randomly rebooted several times in the 2 weeks with no third-party apps, themes, ringtones, etc. In fact, it did it right out of the box within my first few minutes of use. I would be in messages for example, hit esc and boom - reset. There was no real pattern - I could be in phone logs, click the wheel on a call and boom - reset. When I returned it, the store told me they hadn't had complaints on that before, so I just figured it was a bad unit, and by then Sprint had come out with the 7130.

The Sprint version hasn't done it one time. I have since loaded a couple of apps, themes, etc. with no problems or resets.

I have had the 7130e from VZW since it first came out. I have not had the rebooting issue. If you had stayed with VZW i would think a new replacement would have solved your issue since you say it was doing it out of the box.

Just for the record, I use no 3rd party apps. Doing a soft reset does not help. Doing hard reset does not help. I have been through 4 headhelds and my wife has had 2 in the last 4 months. The reboots are indeed completely random. Verizon has been great in terms of replacing the units. But right now I just suffer through it because I love the tethered hi speed modem capabilities. And frankly, new units sometimes takes weeks or even months to get to the point where they reboot 10-15 times a day. My latest one did indeed reboot right out of the box as well, but has only rebooted about once every 2-3 days right now.

Turn it back in for a replacement. I replaced my 7130e and the new one has running without any problems.

My 7130e from Sprint (it's a second-hand unit, bought it from a guy on eBay), it reboots on it's own every so often. I've only noticed it happening twice and I've had the unit for almost a month now. No big deal as I don't have a need to be using the thing non-stop so when it reboots, it's no big deal. I did, however, just recently upgrade the OS to the newest version that Sprint had on their website. I have a few 3rd-party apps on there like Google maps, search and Gmail, InfoSpace, and Yahoo Messenger, but that's about it.
