Default WiFi connects to router, but still shows white dash

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

My bold used to be able to connect to my router perfectly fine, green check mark next to the connection.

Then one day (I think it was after I updated the version on my phone), it wouldn't connect to the router anymore.

I've tried battery pulls, hard resets, router resets, even disabling the security on the router, but it still wont fully connect to the router.

At the top, it will say Rogers - linksysHome, which to me indicates that it does see the router and can communicate with it, but for some reason, in the connections menu, it is still showing a white dash.

I haven't changed my phone plan whatsoever since it used to work.
BBM works, internet works (through data plan), sms, phone all still works normally.

white dash means not connected to BIS through wi-fi.
However, you should still be able to browse.

But it used to be green check marked?

And when browsing, its going through the carrier network, instead of using WiFi.

Kratrz there is definitely something screwey with BB WiFi.

At home in the UK with a new 9700 I had the same situation as you describe, router said it was connected but only a white dash.

Now out here in Florida is where I must have WiFi to get over the stupid high data rates on mobile and I had the same problem as you only now I had no internet despite the white dash. No question of that.

I posted a similar query here yesterday and we reminded about the battery pull so, having done it like yourself umpteen times I did it one more and amazingly it all worked. Now I have a tick and so in my mind the white dash means nothing without the green tick!!!

Worth one more battery pull eh?!!

You'd think that BB would have sorted these things out by now. No wonder there are progs to emulate battery pull!!!!!

Ran into this a while back on the plane using GoGo internet. Screwing around with my WiFi profile and tried checking the box next to 'Allow inter-access point handover'. Worked like a charm instantly after that.

Disclaimer.... I have no clue what that means. Just that it worked and I have not noticed any problems.

Allow inter-access point handover:
Set whether your device remains connected to the wifi network when you move between wireless access points.

Me too. Just tried it and no difference.

I then tried a reset defaults in wifi and a battery pull, after which a new scan and the wifi connected.

Before that there was no IP address from the router which is pretty basic bad news stuff, so there was never a chance of getting to the BIS server etc.

Its all very arbitary sadly. In Barnes and Noble the other day WiFi came up immediately and worked first time. Most other connections just don't work and won't work. More like the old early days of internet connections with Windows when most of the stack worked but this was never enough

Hope Blackberry will really sort this out. The 9700 is a fine device and the ability to switch off roaming data is great but the wifi needs to work consistently.

Just to add that in all the other connections that failed a normal laptop worked just fine.

I have the same sort of problem. At home on wifi it will go from wifi to 3g to edge and back nd forth. You never really can rely on what connection you are using. Is there a way to force it to wifi without actually turning off the cell?

Default Register with network?

Sorry for assuming you haven't tried this yet, but have you tried registering your handheld with the network? It is under "Options-Advanced Options-Host Routing Table".

I have to do this every time my bb reboots, or WiFi will not work outside our enterprise.

I have tried this actually. Maybe I'll add this to my daily battery pulls.
But I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly.

When I open the Host Routing Table, I hover over WiFi, press the BB button and select register, correct?

You don't have to hover over wi-fi.
Menu - register now, registers all those in the table.

Do you have the ports forwarded on the router. I think its 500 and 4500 UDP. assigned my 9700 a static ip which seems to work better.

Default Wifi dash instead of check mark

Had the same problem all day. The discovered as already posted I had to re-register to the blackberry network from the hosting table. Once I did that the green check mark came back and I'm connect to BIS via wifi. I also think it happened after an upgrade or after I removed some applications via the desktop manager. Have had no problem since I re-registered...simple solution, don't know what took me so long to figure it out.

Default Curve 8900 Wi-Fi problem

I am from the Philippines and I got my unit last Dec. 09 from Saudi Arabia. I inserted the sim card and everything worked perfectly fine. But last week, I noticed that whenever I turn on the Wi-Fi, it connects to my router but the Wi-Fi symbol doesn't lit up. My device is connected to the Wi-Fi network but doesn't have access to BB services over the Wi-Fi connection. I cannot receive emails and cannot log in to messenger installed in my phone. I am not a techie and I have no idea what's going on. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Default WiFi connnection problems

Had to re-register again today to get on my home network. I think is has something to do with the desktop management application. At least in my case. Everytime I sync, I have to re-register. If I don't sync, I don't have to re-register. Really not a big deal. I just take a look at my connections and register on the BIS network. Only takes a few seconds.

I got a BB9700 last week and it took me 3 routers and all of 7 days' of uninterrupted browsing to finally read about Dlink DIR 655 on amazon reviews to settle my wi-fi connection. it doesnt drop it doesnt lag. my 2 laptops and a desktop and my BB connect without a single drop.
beware - PLS DONT UPGRADE its firmware!!!!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I've tried it all! Just got my 9700 a couple of days ago and it was working brilliantly, until last night. As one user pointed out, it could very well be since I did the first sync with BB Desktop Manager. (How the...?!)

And the winner is: Re-registering my host routing table. A minute or two after that, sha-bang, I've got my wifi back up and running. Thanks one and all!
