Obviously I'm late to the party as well, seeing as how I only switched to the $29.99 plan yesterday. I had no issues with the CSR, she knew exactly what I was talking about - she even asked which forum I heard about it on.

Would it be worth my time to call back and ask about a refund since I could have been on this Web and Email plan since it started?

Yes. What do you have to lose?

same deal here, I was expecting the worst when i called to ask them about switching, but the CSR actually knew exactly what I was talking about, and was even wondering why they signed me up for the BES service in the first place....thank god for this site

And FYI with Verizon

If you are a government user, like I am, VZW just launched new government pricing and it is impressive.

Unlimited Data, including BES and access to BIS
Unlimited domestic TXT messaging
Free Wireless Priority Service Access
Unlimited IN Calling
Unlimited Night/Weekend
No Domestic Roaming / Long Distance

300 Minutes - $47.99
600 Minutes - $60.99
1000 Minutes - $72.99

For $2 more a month, they add the plan to pool minutes on your account. So, since our account had about 8000 minutes a month available in the pool, we lowered our cost on all our Blackberries from around $85 per month down to $50.

The prices you listed are govt specific, so consumer plans will look a bit different as far as minutes/pricing, but the features you listed are right on..

Stay tuned for more details.

Default Pricing Woooooo's

This is mainly Directed to Demon but.....

I have gone around with SEVERAL CSR's about the difference in the two plans stated here. I had the 29.99 plan from the get go so thats no prob. My question is this........

Why MUST I upgradde to the 44.99 plan juat to be able to ADD the $15 a month tether feature? I am NOT using BES - Just want to eliminate an air card and use the phone in place.

What am I missing? Besides Verizon getting more of my $$$$

29.99 plan + 15.00 = 44.99
44.99 plan + 15.00 = 59.99

What am I getting for the EXTRA $15.00 ?
I have read here that the tether CAN be added to the 29.99 plan but ALL the CSR's I spoke with say I MUST upgrade to the 44.99 plan because of the WAY the system is configured.... DUH?!?!?!

I little help or explination please?
Thanks in advance....

The $30 plan only supports mail and web (SMTP, POP and HTTP and the SSL variations thereof). Tethering requires the full gamut of IP services, thus the upcharge*

(*as a very sharp VZW CSR explained to me a while back)

Not sure how else it can be explained...

29.99 for BIS, unlimited BIS/Email/Internet.
44.99 required for BES activated.
15.00 seperate charge for tethering.

Verizon charges for what they can, basic business practice... Have you tried looking at other carriers?

Verizon is just plain expensive, my company had 800 BB's, 3/4 with T-Mobile and the rest scattered among AT&T and VZW, costs where astronomical with AT&T and VZW but with T-Mobile they were very low and included free tethering. The problem was signal strength and call drops, T-Mobile with as much as a discount they gave us was not enough to put up with the complaints. Verizon and AT&T where brought in and AT&T gave us the same deal as T-Mobile price wise but no tethering. Verizon wouldn't budge, granted they have the best voice but not the best data. We now buy 8820's for $49 for porting a number and free for new service, another thing VZW wouldn't do, and every device gets a BES license. If I'm not mistaken our AT&T deal is $49/month with pooled minute plan and unlimited data/BIS/text, it is even offered to our employees. This could not be met by Verizon even with the 500+ lines we have ported to AT&T. We also haven't heard one complaint about service. Verizon is soon learning they are not the only game in town anymore and their pricing will drop as time goes on.
