Default 8820 OS on an 8800 BB - is this possible?

Please Login to Remove!

This is gonna sound like a dumb question but here goes…. I have an 8800 and I have the latest OS installed which for me is 4.2.1.79 or something like that. I was checking the latest OS for the 8820 (same thing, only with wifi) and that is 4.2.2.xx what would happen if I tried installing the 8820 OS on to my 8800?? Could it even be done? If not, WHY can't it be done?

Thanks!!

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8100: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

This is not possible as each operating system is designed for that particular device.

a more important question would be why would you want to? update just for the sake of update?

The OS is designed not just for the family of devices, but also for the exact model within that family. The 8800 doesn't have WiFi, but the 8820 does. The part of the OS dealing with WiFi would screw mightily with an 8800. There is a strong possibility that installing the wrong OS will brick your 'berry.

It's kinda like putting a Ford motor inside a Honda's hood. So, not possible.

LOL! Blackberry/RIM will not let you! Try and see. If it could be done it would have by now. You are not the first to think about this.

RIM devices are quite secure and you can do very little that RIM does not allow you to do.

What's possible? It is far more likely that you can put a Ford motor in a Honda.

Hmm looks like you guys mis-read my post. ;)

Putting ford motor in Honda car IS possible, therefore it is not a good example of what would happen if install wrong OS into blackberry. IE: OS for 8820 into 8830.

well then how about an 8820 OS in that ford?

A ford engine in an 8820 would be really worth seeing!
