Default OS: 9530 v4.7.0.92/4.7.0.65 (English)

Please Login to Remove!

This is for the 9530 model, and will load on any carrier's 9530.

Software For BlackBerry® Storm(TM) smartphone

(I believe this version contains multiple languages, including English, European languages and Asian, if someone who installs it will post and confirm).

Package Version: 4.7.0.92
Consisting of:
Applications: 4.7.0.65
Software Platform: 4.0.0.82
File name: 9530AMEA_PBr4_1.7.0_rel92_PL4.0.0.82_A4.7.0.65_Ver izon_Wireless.ex e

File size: 104 MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

Download Here: BlackBerry® Software Updates
NOTE: At that page, you will be given the choice for the web-based upgrade or to download the OS for a manual install via Desktop Manager/App Loader.

Instructions for installing either version on ANY carrier's 9530:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

Thanks Zerog46

Can you update your title to show .82 instead of .92. I got all excited for nothing.

Wirelessly posted (Verizon 8830)

Is this different from what zero posted earlier?

I'm guessing the difference is that it's for the 9530 version rather than the 9500, like an update for the 8830 versus the 8800... maybe.

.92 is correct, the package version which we routinely use in this manner.

Question... I know these are the standard copied/pasted instructions for installing an upgrade... but..

The USB Drivers that install with Rim Desktop Manager v4.7 include support for a new hardware PNP ID (VID_0fca&PID_8007&MI_00) which is not in the driver set that comes with DM v4.3 thru 4.6, nor in DM 4.2 and lower...

I don't have my storm yet (its set to arrive on Monday... its a freebie, so I wont complain) to confirm this, but...

Since only the storm ships with DM v4.7, wouldn't it stand to reason that this VID/PID is the Storm? and that drivers without this PID/VID wont work to get Windows Device Manager to see it as a Blackberry Smart Phone, and therefore BB Desktop Manager wont see the blackberry?

So a newer Desktop Manager, or at least drivers from the newer desktop manager would be needed to perform this load?

I'm using desktop manager 4.5 and it works fine. Love the storm so far, will take some getting used to but love it. Waiting for themes!! just installed this update so will provide feedback if there's anything worth providing.

And I have edited the instructions above to indicate that DM v4.7 is recommended. Thanks, Mark. And yes, falleyne, I read that 4.5 worked ok, as well.

My unit was missing BES activation option. I gave Verizon a call and while taking about my issue I asked if there is anything new in the firmware posted. At first he said that it is the shipping firmware but after little while he came back and said there is an small update build in. Java is updated to new code so it is compatible with Java version 11 that Google and others upgraded to from version 10.1.

Verizon pulled the .82 upgrade due to a last minute bug found in the software, now all the phones will be shipping with version .65. This is why their are so few Storms to go around right now.

No, the only time you have to delete the Vendor XML file is when the OS is from a different carrier than what yours.

So, the latest from BGR says there never was a .82 version of the code. It also leads me to believe there will be no update coming very soon.

"1) The official code shipping with the BlackBerry Storm from Verizon Wireless is xxx8220;v4.7.0.65 (Platform 4.0.0.82).xxx8221; This information appears in the Options / About section on the handset. The first number (v4.7.0.65) is the software version that appears on the bar code sticker applied to the outside of the BlackBerry/Verizon Wireless box.

2) A limited batch of bar code stickers was initially printed with an incorrect software version number (the last two digits of the number was incorrectly listed as .82 instead of .65) and the stickers were applied to several thousand boxes. The error was detected early (and prior to launch) and new stickers with the correct software version number were printed and applied to the boxes over top of the incorrect stickers. Again, this only involved a relatively small batch of boxes.

3) There is not and never was a software version 4.7.0.82. A blogger noticed the incorrect sticker (underneath the correct sticker) on a box provided to him by Verizon Wireless and posted a xxx8220;theoryxxx8221; suggesting (as a potential explanation for the second sticker) that the software may have been xxx8220;downgradedxxx8221; at the last minute and the blogger further speculated that this may have been due to a xxx8220;security vulnerabilityxxx8221;. It is very important to note that the blogger clearly and voluntarily stated upfront that it was only a theory. In fact, the blogger even described it as a xxx8220;conspiracy theoryxxx8221; and wrote the following in his original post: xxx8220;I want to preface this by saying that the following statements are my opinions and hypotheses, and have not be confirmed nor denied by any of sources of mine or official contacts at either corporation. It should serve as a nice little xxx8216;conspiracy theory,xxx8217; though.xxx8221;

4) The theory was incorrect. A software version 4.7.0.82 has never existed and there was no such security vulnerability. Further, the software was not downgraded as incorrectly theorized. The simple explanation for the presence of two stickers on a relatively small batch of boxes is that a limited number of misprinted stickers were discovered on boxes prior to launch and were covered with new (correct) stickers.xxx8221;

Just got mine...all is as shipped v65/ 82.

First impressions is the interface is a little slower than i would like. but i have been able to adjust some parms . The landscape to portrait switch is maddeningly slow at times when processor is busy. (or when your trying to impress someone)..I assume that there will be some speed enhancements coming...Also waiting for accessories and themes...
