Am i missing something? I cannot find an option to lock the screen orientation. Sommetimes the orientation rotation just isn't necessary, and, it drives me nuts seeing portrait, landscape, portrait, landscape ......

Try this app. It's still in beta but it does lock the orientation to portrait mode but only for the home screen. It does some other useful things too.
