Default Going to SP2 MR5 for Exchange 2010 compatibility Thurs at 6 PM

Please Login to Remove!

we will be moving to Exchange 2010 - our first step is to install an Exchange 2010 CAS server over the next 2 weeks. I am on 5.0 MR2 with SQL 2005 as it has been running great with 120 users for the past year.
I have downloaded the correct CDO.dll from Microsoft (using Blackberry Support) and have SP2 and MR5 downloaded. The plan is to
Back up besadmin database
Image the system as it is a VMWare
Uninstall present cdo.dll
Install the new cdo.dll
install 5.0 SP5
Install MR5 (which is cumulative)
I have been told to budget 2 hours to get this done.
Is this doable?
Any suggestions or "gotchas".
Thanks

If you can, upgrade to 5.0.3 mr6 (is free for you).

In you are upgrading your exchange from 2007, take the kb22601 in consideration.

Regards.

thanks - we will be moving to exchange 2010 in a few months. The first step is something called a "CAS" server which only talks to our "proofpoint" email gateway. I want to be on SP2 MR5 as that is the minimum supported config and it may be too big a jump to go from 5.0 to SP3(at least that is what some of the message boards say). I dont think i should upgrade the CDo.dll now as i would be ahead of the Exchange 2007 server(is it backward compatible)- but if i do the SP that is the longer part. I hate to touch this as it has run flawlessly for the past year.
I am aware of the throttling issue but until we totally migrate the back end server that and the bes account will not be an issue.

I attempted this last evening and had to revert to my VM IMage(Thank God). I had excellent phone support from Blackberry, the SP2 went in fine(took about an hour 20 minutes) and I bought up the BAS. 7 our of 120 users came over and started showing current time/date- but the others all stayed at 6:30 PM and did not update. The event log was clean except for some "halted thread" items that we could not clear with a reboot. I am thinking of getting a temporary SRP and building a new server with SP3 and migrating the users over as my change window of 3 hours is not enough if there are any problems. We passed all the prerequisite tests (he said we were on the lower limit of RAM) and the MAPI was identical to our Exch 2007(but thought it would not hurt to update but by then too late at 9 PM). Any thoughts?
Thanks

how much free RAM do you have?

is SQL on the Same BES VM?

Do you have any logs to show us when SP2 did not work?

It looks like the issue is not enough free RAM. I am getting a VM configured with 3GB getting a temp SRP so migrate the users. The logs were sent to RIM(the relevant lines with a cut and paste) but once I revert the logs are gone. We have SQL 2005 on the same box..

3gb of rum is enough for 120 users

you said that few users started bit rest of them not

did you move bes admin mailbox to exchange 2010?
did you assign proper permissions for besadmin account on exchange 2010?
did you create throttling policy for besadmin account
did you recreate mapi profile for besadmin account to point to exchange 2010?

Thanks for the follow up
We are not on exchange 2010 yet- we will next month so need sp2mr5.
I actually got a temp SRP and created a new VM with 3 GB(the old had less than 2).
I will work with my exchange Admin on those issues, throttling policy, move of BESadmin, new Mapi.
