Default 7290 not letting me search by "first letters"

Please Login to Remove!

Lo all, I used to able to go into my contacts and hit the letter A or G or whatever and it would jump to the first entry with that letter. Suddenly it doesn't do that anymore. I have searched these forums and blackberry's own pages and nobody else seems to have experienced this or else I don't know that right keyword to search for. If anybody else has experienced this and fixed it, please let me know!
Thanks

Are you trying to do this from the Address book or from the phone app? With 4.1 and later, 72xx devices can no longer filter by name in the phone app. If this is happening in the Address Book, then I have no idea what could possibly be causing it.

Trigga - in older versions of the OS, you could go into the phone application and start typing a persons name. You can't do that any more. THat's the problem here.

You can't do that if you use the Phone icon / menu choice. However, on my 8700, if I hold the green handset (Call) key down for more than 1/2 a second, it brings up the list of names in my address book and I can type someones name to locate it, then hit enter to either call them or choose which of their numbers to call (home, work, mobile, etc.).

On devices with the Call (green handset) and Disconnect (red handset) buttons; and with 26 speed dials available, I don't see the need for the Phone icon in the menu and have it hidden!

Yes, welcome to 4.1!
