That phone is the single best BlackBerry RIMM has ever produced. As far as email is concerned, you can do both. On a BlackBerry, emails arrive in a way similar to a MMS. What makes you dislike Hotmail?

Most carriers will give you a .blackberry.net email address, also on th ephone set up you can set up your email accounts on there as well. Enjoy your 8900 its a great device, alot better than the 8300 series

I went from a reg phone to the 8900 and its great! the ammount of time i spen using it isnt but the last smart phone i had was the old motorola and this one is eons better. not much of a learning curve i just wish i could use the keyboard a little better but i am getting there. i really didnt want it but my wife got a deal on 2 of them and i am glad she did. great hone so far I got a hybrid case for it (i ride a motorcycle) and it seems a little fragile in my pocket to me that was the only down side.
You might want to think twice before using a .blackberry.net address. I have never used one, but have read a bit about them here and there seems to be several drawbacks. I can't remember what they are right now. You might want to do some searching here and find out.
You can always get a gmail or yahoo email account and use that for your BB.
Congratulations, Gardner. Forget what you know about phones and pda's -- that is, at least don't have any expecations about the way things are supposed to be -- and take the blackberry as it is and as it comes. And someone might as well tell you now, the blackberry clock will not change automatically when you move into another time zone.
On the email, you can run up to 10 accounts, I believe. I use the blackberry.net account for certain things, and I also have other accounts set up. The advantage of the carrier's blackberry email is that it is very reliable and it is instant, and I use it for purposes where that is important to me. The disadvantage is there is no spam filter, so don't use it where your address will be vulnerable to spammers. Also, you cannot access that email from anywhere but the blackberry, and there is no trash bin for recovery of accidently deleted emails.
Gardner, are you tmobile US, or Europe . . . ? Just curious.

EDIT: I see the answer. My crack about time zone was partly a joke. It's a complaint that comes up at least once a week, sometimes multiple times per day. Hang around and you'll see.

My 8900 is my 4th Blackberry and it is the best. Setting up email is a snap, I have 4 different email accounts set up on mine. The 8900 will take you through an email set up wizard and after a few entries you are all set up.
