How's the Bluetooth capability of the 8703? Is it crippled like all of Verizon's other phones. I have a Verizon Treo 650 right now. I'm either going to switch to an 8703, or to T-Mobile and one of their Blackberry models.

Does it make sense that the results are worse with JBenchmark 1 than they were for the first run I posted?! I re-ran with similar results, so I'm confused.

Here are my results from JBenchmark. I turned the radio off, did a fresh reboot and ran JBenchmark.

Radio Off Results:

JBenchmark 1: 1020

I then turned wireless back on.

Radio On Results:

So the bottom line for me is no appreciable difference between wireless off and on.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

So why the big difference between these two benchmarks on the 8703e. The second user having similar speeds to an earlier comparison of a GSM based 8700

I love this new BB, all set up now and no complaints. I was hoping to use the leather holster that I use for my 7250 but apparently that magnet thingy inside is not in the right place because the phone does not lock when I slide it in the case. Anyone know if any 8700 series cases will fit this and have the magnet in the right place ?
Thanks

Check out the RIM OEM Leather case w/swivel clip. Click the Sponsors link at the top of the page. Cheaper than shopblackberry.com

Also, there's a new lamb-skin case coming from RIM on 10/6/06 for the 8700 series.

It wil be on VZEmail - BlackBerry 4.x Software Download but I don;t know when it will be posted. If your new unit failed, call Internet sales for a replacement.

Mine just showed up, and I'm ready to say goodbye to my 7250. Out of the box it feels faster, and the screen is a joy. It's not really sunny so I can't speak to that. I'll skip the benchmark results, there seem to be plenty.

I'm worried about the escape key though which feels very flimsy. The battery cover is really thing also, and sounds hollow if you tap it. I suppose I'm just used to my 7250 w/it's super thick extended life battery.

As said before, the default VZW theme is utter crap. It comes with 5 themes. BB Dimension List/Icon, BB Insight List/Icon and Verizon.

The keypad is nice, although keys around the edges (Q, A, , P, , , , , ) are a bit harder to get to since they keypad is slightly inset. The key is also several milimeters higher than it was (in line with 7/Z instead of slightly below it) which is an adjustment.

Enterprise activation (BES 4.1) took about 5 minutes, on my 7250 is usually takes about 15.

The Switch Device Wizard included with Desktop Manager 4.2 didn't work that well. It grabbed the Weather app which I didn't even realize was installed, and most of my settings. It didn't copy BB Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, Opera Mini, Google Local or MidpSSH, or their settings.

Speakerphone sounds OK. The volume is a bit low and it's a crackly tinny little speaker, but I didn't expect too much.

Alt-Tab feels slower than on the 7250 (both leave the POS 7750 in the dust), I wonder if themes slow the device down. You can view pictures full-screen, fixing the bug with the 4.1 OS release before 4.1.0.268.

My Enterprise Activation took about 10% of the time with the 8703 as it did with my 7750. Accessing internet sites seems faster with the 8703 as well.

Got it theathered to my laptop today with the new Verizon internet service, pretty good deal at $15 a month, and it peaked at about 180kbps, not bad for wireless internet.

After playing with the 8703e all day, I think one small problem is that the vibrate feature is not nearly as loud or strong as with the 7250

OK. After replacing the battery after 10 hours of usage it will no longer reboot. All I get is Data Abort (Reset). I'm on the phone with DATA support. She didn't even know this model was out yet. She has no clue. I asked if ther was a place I could get the OS for reboad. She said customers can't do that. Now she want to chage me for overnight shipping to send a new device. I'm now on hold waiting for a manager.
