Default Exchange 2003/2010 Migration

Please Login to Remove!

hi all! we're currently working on migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2010. i've read the articles on how to do the BES migration and think that i have figured out but have a few questions.

once BESadmin is moved to 2010 will blackberries in 2003 still work?

will they work in coexistence as long as i have the MAPI/CDO files on the same version and i've set the all the permissions for the BESadmin account?

after updating the MAPI to Exchange 2010, can we reactivate users still in the 2003 exchange?

thanks in advance for your help.

we didn't update the MAPI/CDO files on the 2003 exchange server and old 4.1.x BES yet, and I'm wondering if that is why we are having problems. That said, I really don't want to update it on the old servers at this point, because they still work and I don't want to break them. I can't see that being a safe process.

Currently we have 6.5.7654.12 Mapi/cdo on the old exch2003 and BES 4.1.7 servers. The new BES is 6.5.8190.0, and it seems to be working except we can't send from a BlackBerry on the new BES and exch2010 to an exch2003 account, even though we can send to it and in both directions from OWA on that 2010 account. Very wierd.

I can't find any info on whether or not it would be safe for us to update the MAPI on our old BES and Exch2003 server to the latest to match the MAPI on the new 5.0.2 BES.

Any guidance on this?

they are different versions of BES and that should not matter.
IIRC you have excahnge 2010, use CDO on that and leave the excahnge 2003 as is unless the older BES has an issue.

I was wondering in your scenario of having exchange 2003 with BES 4.1, then adding exchange 2010 as coexistence, did your blackberry devices still recieve email? I have a similar situation and was wondering if this works before I change my DNS to route email through the new exchange 2010 server. All my users will still be on the exchange 2003 server.

Adding in a 2010 server will not affect them, unless you move a user to 2010 and the user is on BES 4.x. Only BES 5.1 supports exchange 2010.

You can also get BES Express 5
