Hmm... I have voice through Cingular & BB through T-Mobile. Could a dual-sim work for this? Thus eliminating having to carry two phones? One sim for Data (T-Mobile) and one for Voice?

You could, but be aware both lines will not be active at the same time, lets say your on SIM card 1, and someone calls SIM card 2, SIM card 2 will act as if the phone is off and go right to voicemail, you would have to select SIM card 2, and it will activate that and the same will happen with SIM card 1 it will be inactive.

The data SIM should hold back email until activated.

Hold back email? I don't understand. Do you mean any email sent would bounce back to sender if the SIM isn't activated?

someone needs to make one that can do one sim for voice and one for data at the same time

But that completely changes the design specs.. having two different identities at the same time. Doubt you will see that coming.

network bandwidth may not support the use of data and voice at the same time.

As for the email holding, it does store in the server until the BB can use data . Not sure IM does the same thing.

No re-starting with this one... as long as it has stk program your fine.... most of them now do not need to be re-started.
I bought this Dual Sim Card from the above link. And I got it today. But the orientation just is not right. Take a look at the picture of the product on the ebay page carefully, then compare it with your BB8700 with battery taken out. How could that orientation work?

Spoke too soon. You need to put one side in, then put the battery on, then fold the sim adapture over to the top of battery, then close the cover. I need to finish this tonight.

The bad news is: two cards fit into the BB very very tight.

My first try says "INSERT SIM CAR".... and nothing works.

THINK BEFORE YOU ORDER!

Here is what happened to my purchases.

I followed the links and purchased from two suppliers, it costed me total of $20 including shipping.

The first one sells the Ghost Sim Card, from the very first post of this thread. I was able to purchase it from their ebay store (red_ferrari_f355) here :

eBay: Blackberry 8700c, R957, R957M Ghost Dual SIM (item 110018998809 end time Aug-18-06 11:57:00 PDT)

I bought it on Aug 12, and I haven't received any message saying it's shipped, and no product arrived. So I sent the seller a message today.

My second purchase is the Dual Sim Card King, here is the link I purchased from gezeng:

eBay: Dual sim card-no Cutting-no power off-number displayed (item 330017232389 end time Aug-18-06 19:39:45 PDT)

I received it today from China, fast shipping. I managed to make it fit into BB8700, but it does not work. Looks like there is no connection at all because BB says "Insert the Sim Card" no matter what I do. I am pretty sure I installed it right because I called this seller in China using skype and spoke with him in Chinese, and he just told me to re-try and press it hard, etc. When I called again, he switched offline. So no further response. I sent a request for refund. This looks promising, but I am very doubtful it's going to work, because by design, you need to fold that piece of product, and I think the folding will sooner or later break the wire inside, if not immediately.

So here is my experience. Think before you order.

Unless someone on this board took the picture of their BB and showed to you it actually worked on their BB - the setup, and menu on screen, do NOT buy it. Save your time and money.

I had the exact same issue. I got it to work once, but when I switched to SIM2 it stopped working and did the "Insert Sim Card" thing again. I ordered a SIM copier and another device so I'm going to try that and report back later.

pengrus,

Is your blackberry unlocked? I have been using mine flawlessly now for a while now with no problems. Now you say it says insert sim card..... usually when your blackberry is locked and put another sim card in that's what it will usually say.

ant architect,

Do you have a really old sim card? If you do that is your problem...... place that same card in without the dual sim card and try it... if it works once and stops it is the sim card.... all you have to do is update that sim card... I am trying to get my camera to work to post some pics.......

I have a T-Mobile SIM card that was given to me recently, and a 64k 3g Cingular SIM. They are both pretty new.
