Default Tweaking Help required. Internet connection on 8900

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I have a 8900 device (4.6.1.109 platform 4.2.0.74) which is branded by Vodafone UK (unlocked) and using it with a Orange UK Sim.

Internet was working fine...facebook, hotmail all connected perfectly. Then I activated it for my work email (BES) and bang...

Hotmail stopped working. facebook stopped working. I have modified the browser to use Orange connection and that is working now. but hotmail/google maps/facebook apps that require connection dont seem to register this.

Please help. what do i need to do to make my Hotmail/google maps and facebook work along side my work email (BES)- which works

I am thinking of unbranding the device with blackberry's own firmware..which one shall i go for..?

Battery life is awful with the version I have!

Thanks... i would appreciate any help with this..

Most likely it is an IT Policy from your company that came with being connected to BES that shut everything else down. Companies restrict what you can and cannot do. No way around it unless you wish to be removed from your job. Always assume that anything you do can be and is monitored by the company to include email, IMs, etc.

If this is your personal BB, then take it off BES unless you really need your work email and that is the only way to get it. If this is a company provided BB, then go buy a personal one for your personal email etc.

As for debranding, not sure what you mean. You can't remove the Voda start up flash as that is embedded in the device and can't be changed. AFAIK, there is no RIM OS, they all are from RIM. It is all basically the same with just mods for each carrier that the carrier requested.

It may be the IT Policy being used (via the BES) that may be preventing certain things from working. You may need to check with your BES administrator to see if they have any restrictions with those applications.

I knew it was the policy. So i switched off the MDS collaboration service but then again, i thought as I am using a Voda branded handset it maybe that I need to configure Orange connection settings.

Does anybody have APN details they use on their orange blackberry...my browser has Orange World settings automatically pushed to it from orange.

also, which firmware should I go for on my device.
Thanks
