Wow. I am glad I called tmo early on 02/11 at 3:00 AM PST (6 AM EST) and received it the day after (02/12) at 2 PM. I was really surprised that UPS delivered it so fast. Even if they will charge me for overnight delivery, I'll pay for it.

T-Mobile took payment and even offered me expedited shipping! After trying to track the order throughout the week, I found through calls to customer support that the 8900 curve is on backorder. Customer service sent a form to the warehouse for estimated ship date and said they would get back to me.
A retail location near where I live said they only received 5 or 6 phones and they went fast. Sounds like T-Mobile promoted a product launch and knowingly acquired an insufficient amount of stock for the launch.
Great way to gather some capital real fast and lose esteem at the same time.
As my contract is (was...) due to expire next month, I have decided that if I do not get the phone before the contract expiration date, I will cancel with T-Mobile and pick a better provider. Oh well
Tmobile =

They didn't "knowingly acquire" an insufficient stock. I think it would be more accurate to say that they underestimated the demand.
Not sure what you mean, "they took payment". Mine was just billed to my phone bill and always has been as an existing customer when I order through customer care or on-line.

You say that 5-6 units at store that resides on a major intersection in a metropolitan area in California is sufficient for a product launch. Strong disagreement here, personally I forecast my own sales well, being in tune with demand, trends and consumer information. It's part of sales, apparently TMobile needs to improve their skills
"Took payment" as I am lucky in that the phone was being donated to me

Ah you got lucky....
I ordered mine on the 18th. The CSR was kind and I even took the expedited shipping offer. Said I should receive the phone on the 20th......
So sure enough, on the morning of the 20th, I receive the text notifying me that the phone was shipped. I check UPS and it's verified. I get home and sure enough it's on my doorstep. In excitement, I open the package...... Only to see that they sent me an 8820...... The phone I'm already using.
So I called to ask "wtf" and the CSR tells me they're billing me for a 8900 but because I am using an 8820, someone must have gotten confused..... So I asked her, "why would I upgrade and renew my contract for 2 years for the phone i'm calling you on?!". She had no response.
Long story short, they refuse to send me a 8900 until I UPS them the 8820 back, wait for them to receive it, and then contact them to reorder the 8900.... I refused to pull the "I'm a loyal customer" card cause I hate when people do that at my place of business, but now that I think about it, I feel like I deserve some sort of discount for their incompetence.....
Anyone agree?!

The CSR must have been a big ass. If you contract was over and since you are still in the 14 day period, call T-Mobile and tell them you want to return the phone. I am sure they will take care of that. At this 1st place it may not sound ethical but trust me.. sometimes it is necessary.

I agree. When I ordered the 8220 for my wife back in October, the same thing happened....we received an 8820 instead of the 8220. But, when I called them, they apologized and said the would ship the 8220 immediately, but they would bill me for the 8820 unless it was shipped back within 10 days. Plus, they refuned the amount it would be to ship the 8820 back. And, expedited the 8220 for free.
I would call back and talk with another CSR, if you can.
