What really puzzles me is why someone would care what kind of cell phone another person carries and why they carry it. Especially someone they don't even know other than reading their post on a forum.

I guess I am one of these so called "cheap skates".... I am getting the BB8320 due to the fact that all the other Hotspot@Home phones are terrible (tried them all) also if there are any problems with wifi...this is the only phone you can actually update any fixes. I also don't want the data plan because I only want to use wifi internet while in hotspots/wifi networks just for simple site viewing/weather/sports scores...etc.

No you are not at all, We are mainly talking about people who want the mobile data without paying. That is not what you are doing.

You cheapskates need to just fork out the money for the right plan, rather than trying to work around it. If you can afford the device, you should be able to afford the plan. If you have T-Mobile, you definitely have no excuse. BB service can cost as little as $20/mo. with a voice plan.
If all you want is a keyboard, then buy a Nokia E61i, E70, or a Windows Mobile device.

OK. I rarely post on these forums (I'm usually over at CrackBerry) but I've read the above postings and I just want to put in my opinion. Getting data for free and not paying ANYTHING for it is stealing. But if I am using a $10 WAP data plan on a Ericsson W810i , for example, and I want to take that plan and use it on a BlackBerry 8310 (which I did) that's not stealing. I am getting the service that I pay for, I'm just using it on a different device! I am on Rogers in Canada and until quite recently, we didn't have a BlackBerry Data option for cheaper than $45 and that included only 4MB (it has since been increased to 7MB). Now that we have a more reasonable plan ($15 for unlimited email and BB messenger; no browsing/third party apps) I have switched to it. But think about this twist: my 8310 has GPS. I can't use GPS without having a data plan. Yet if I bought a Garmin GPS unit I would have access to GPS without paying data rates. So I am all for trying to find workarounds for this sort of thing.

Yes, you need a data plan to use GPS - because unlike the Garmin (which costs a lot more than a BlackBerry) the BlackBerry downloads the maps of its current location "on the fly" from the server - i.e. using data. Comparing it with a Garmin GPS unit is apples and oranges. Trying to find "workarounds" equates to trying to use data without paying for it, and that equates to THEFT - pretty simple.

O/T : You don't need a data plan to use GPS. There a couple of apps out there that you can use with maps being stored on microSD. So, I would tend to think that "NoDataPlaninCanada" has been robbed of basic functionality of his/her phone.
For the record: I have a BB Plan and a Data Plan. We just don't get the unlimited versions you have in some parts of North America.

Any names or links? Seems I do recall one mentioned on here a while back, but after further investigation by a user, it didn't work or ended up costing an arm and a leg to one time purchase the maps.

Note to DallasFlier, I really need to change my user name! That having been said, Rogers Canada is charging $299.00 for the 8310 and the 8110 that have GPS. My friend purchased a GPS unit for his vehicle (not sure of the brand) at Best Buy for approx. $300.00.

And where in the world can that be found?
Also, this is a blackberry plan: Unsupported Browser but I want to make 100% sure that it includes a BLACKBERRY data plan (And not just any data plan)? I know it probably should, but I want to know for sure before I decide to make the upgrade.

While I don't venture to speak for dc/dc, he meant "with" as in "along side". Knowing that dc/dc was a fairly highly intelligent BB user, I am certain he meant it in those terms.

Was a few months ago, I assume he still. Past tense was not intended, other than I have not seen him around for a while.
