Please Login to Remove!

Hi forum,

Does anyone know if RIM supports versions of BES on VM? Is anyone running BES on VM?

Thanks,

If you read the install guide, you can run BES 4.1.2 and newer on ESX version 2.5.2

"large numbers of tech support teams in carriers have been running BES on VM for a while now"... I would presume these are test servers with a few users? I would not run my large-scale user-base production on a VM. Yes it can save cost, but an unrecovervable disaster can be costly too. Just like the virtual cyber space is full of unexpected, I prefer the real world... my 2cent worth comment.

Yes - sorry should have been more explicit. We do have a customer with one main BES runniing on VMware with over 200 users and they seem happy enough however.

boma0021, do you mind sharing with us your hardware and software configurations for your virtual environment setup? 800 users, pretty awesome!

Thanks for sharing, boma0021. Any hiccups when you move the users from 1 BES to the other? MDS for web browsing enable for all 800 users? Is your Attachment service a remote dedicated one? Or all your BB services installed on each BES? Just wanna know if you have actually distributed the load of BES processing... Care to share again?

no problem, all services running on each machine. MDS for Browsing is enabled. User move is our failover. We have the state db replicated between the two servers. One server down we make the move, works pretty well. A normal user move brings a ton of problems - it just don't work right - we figured out that with a domino clustered state db, after a move both server try to write into the db. the end is a trillion replication conflict documents and a not working account. if one server is down everything runs smoothly.
