Default Background noise

Please Login to Remove!

When I am talking to people on my 8830 they constantly complain that my recieve is picking up way too much background noise. People always think I am in a bar or resaurant.

I searched the forums and someone had a similar problem with an 8100. Any suggestions?

A number of others have posted about this problem, as well.

It's a horrendous problem for me to use my 8800 as a cell phone. Between the echo and the amplified background noise, nobody can tell who I am from the sound of my voice. We've been through three 8800's and every one is the same. I consider it the worst cell phone I've ever used, for that reason. I've had to resort to carrying a regular cell phone, for important calls, in addition to schlepping the BB. I pretty much only use my BB for email, now. But, then again, that's what we bought the damn thing for, anyhow. It's a great tool for plaintext email.

You'd think BB would have learned how to build a decent cell phone, by now. Especially considering how expensive the device is.

Thats terrible. Ive always had good luck with BB phones. Guess Ill keep the Palm centro after all. Darn, I wanted to like the 8830.

The only time I have problems is when I am in a really noisy environment, the mic on the phone is very sensitive, but I wouldn't say it's bad. I mostly use mine with a Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset and have no complaints, the call clarity is fantastic and I have never dropped a call. During normal situations when I am in the office of even walking around the park I have had no complaints, only when I am in a environment where it is very noisy.

I totally agree. Even in noisy environments, people tell me that I come through loud and clear, but there is garbled background noise as well. However, they can totally understand my speech, and that is important. If you make a lot of business calls and background noise is an issue, you should probably invest in a headset/earpiece. I hardly even use mine, and paid $120 for it, but I don't regret that a bit. Well worth it, IMO.

Default I get this issue all the time

If I'm in the office, in the car listening to the radio, watching TV, or outside people complain that they can hear the ambient noise.


I'm with Telus and I think it's a flaw with the 8830. I've spoken with other 8830 owners and they're having the same issue.

I don't want to walk around with a Jawbone so I'm hoping there's a fix for this out there.

I'm going to test out using types of tape as diffusers to see if anything works.

i too thought my phone had this problem. When driving my wife would always complain about the backround noise,not the radio but some type of staticky white noise. she said it was to loud to talk, (bluetooth headset had similar prob..another story)the passengers in the car sounded loud too. I was in a large building mechanical room with a huge air compressor running in the backround, she could barley hear it!!? Thru trial and error it seems to be the type of backround noise and signal strength. so thats my bit of feedback...

edit-forgot to add it was the wind noise in my car that was causing the white noise and overamplification of the backround noise. i tried her car and no problems.

so this is not a constant problem, but depends on the type and frequency of the background noise? If you are closer to the mic does it make a difference?

never tried closer to the mic!!??
Definetly not a constant problem on my end.I did have similar complaints on my Moto Q.

Default Background noise

My husband has a BB, I do not but we are both on the Verizon network. I often end up hanging up on him in frustration for not being able to hear what he is saying and for the UNBELIEVABLE background noise. Because we are living in two different cities for the time being (work related), our phone communication is very important to us and this piece of s*@t BB has put a tremendous strain on our relationship by ruining the very few moments that we can share on the phone!

At home, at work, in a restaurant or out on the streets, I can hear only about every third word he says and often ask him to repeat everything he says at least twice, which of course upsets him greatly. I've gotten pretty good at making sense of two out of every 20 that he speaks and trying to put together whatever he is saying. If he is at home and happens to be putting ice cubes in a glass, it sounds as though two cars have crashed within 5 feet of him! If he's in a restaurant, I can hear the people in the background better than I can hear him. It's truly ridiculous that BB cannot seem to fix what appears to be a tremendous problem with their phones.

For whatever reason, it seems that his calls are much easier to understand and have less background noise when his phone is fully charged. Beyond that, his phone sucks!
