Default EVDO/EDGE Blackberry

With the advent of phones such as the Motorola A840 with CDMA & GSM network capabilities does anyone know if we will soon see the same with Blackberrys? Travelling anywhere outside of North America (even to most of the Carribean) renders my Blackberry and overpriced EVDO capable PDA

I doubt it. For people that travel outside of the areas with CDMA roaming, you should just use a GSM blackberry.

I would say that its possible. If there is a big enough demand, then RIM will produce it.

Unfortunately my corp policy is that we must use Bell Canada. Were it a personal choice I would have obviously opted for an EDGEberry

Probably more likely that Verizon would signoff than Cingular, seeing as though they already sell CDMA/GSM phones . . .

While that may be true...it is a limited selection (1) and designed for international usage with not so reasonable voice and data rates.
Have a director that uses the phone and he is dying to end his contract so that he can switch out ASAP.

Ok i'm going to sound stupid here, but in theory this motorola phone could be used on the verizon network here and then pop in an international gsm sim while abroad? I mean it's not a berry by far but thats convergence in my opinion

tru, but the updated WinMo phone is going GSM/CDMA, isn't it? I agree tho, the demand probably just isn't there, and Cingular would never go for it (no reason to except for SK, and even SK is launching HSDPA).
