Default Brand new Blackberry 9330 nagging problems

Please Login to Remove!

Dear All,

Brand new phone, never used before:
Blackberry Curve 9330
S/W version: 6.0.0.415

I am a complete Blackberry newbie (just got the phone on Wednesday) and I have a couple of (what I think are) unusual problems.

It seems that the IT person at my job who configured the phone initially logged in under his account. Because of this, I have 3 e-mail accounts of his on the phone as well as his list of previous phone calls.

My questions are:
1. How do I remove the IT guy's e-mail accounts (currently I have them hidden)?

2. How do I clear the phone call log of his prior calls?

Is there any way to do the above without wiping the phone and starting over? (I have an enterprise e-mail account and I do not think I have all the information (passwords, server names) required to to reinstall it)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

You need to talk to the person who set up the phone to better understand what he did and have him fix it.

Corporate Blackberry's generally have a restriction policy called "IT Policy". When this is set it limits the users ability to modify or even add applications including additional email addresses. The best thing to do is as Dubdub suggested and talk to the IT person or group to correct the email issues.

Call logs are another item. they are easy to delete.

Deleting Call Logs from your BlackBerry Smartphone

To delete Phone Call Logs

On the BlackBerry smartphone, open your messages.
With the message list open, hold the Alt key and press P to display all the phone call logs.
Scroll to the date before which you want to delete call records.
Click on the highlighted date.
In the menu, click on Delete Prior. In the confirmation dialog, select Delete. All phone call logs prior to the selected date are deleted.

Thanks to both of you for your responses.
tsac: I tried what you suggested but when I select a call and activate the menu, my only choice is 'Delete'; I do not see a 'Delete Prior' . . . I guess I need to do as both of you suggested and get back to my IT guy and have hime address the problems.
Thanks again.

Mike, try going to your main Messages folder > BB Menu key > View Folder > Phone Call Logs > Highlight the first Date Bar > BB Menu key > Delete Prior

stevetaz: Thanks for your suggestion. However, I still only get 'Delete' and no 'Delete Prior' . . . may be a switch that the 'IT Policy' has turned off?

The following are my selections from the BB menu:
Switch Application, Open, Call [the number], Forward, Delete, Compose Email, Compose Other, Search by, View Folder, View Saved Messages, Reconcile Now, Message Notifiers, Options, Help, Close

Because I am bothered by something I should probably ignore anyway, I bit the bullet and deleted all the prior calls manually . . .

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike, it sounds like you are highlighting an individual message and pressing the BB Menu key.

You have to make sure the highlight is on a date title bar and you should see the Delete Prior option. This is similar to the same option showing up when you are in your messages Inbox. Highlight a message and you will not see the Delete Prior option. Highlight a date bar and that separates the day's messages then press the BB Menu key and you should see the Delete Prior option.

If not I have no idea why, but I doubt it is an IT Policy restriction.

Cool! stevetaz, you are exactly right; that's what I was doing. Nothing to do with the 'IT Policy'. Good to know.

Time to read the manual! And, thanks again.

Glad you were able to resolve the call log problem. I would still call the IT person who set up the Blackberry. If he has his email on the BB as additional email addresses it means he set it up using the carriers BIS servers. This is a normal ability used by all blackberrys and allows users to set up 10 additional email addresses on the BB. This means he used the PIN number associated with the BB and unless he removes the association you will continue to receive his email. The servers will simply push the service books back to the BB if they are deleted and the email will continue.
You will also need the password to the BIS service to use it to set up your own additional emails. Only one BB is associated with the carriers server so you cannot do anything until this is done

All Blackberrys are given an account with the standard <user_name>@<serviceprovider>.blackberry.com). This allows the BB to communicate with the carriers service. From there depending on the service BIS or BES it will either become the default email or a secondary one.

As Dubdub and I suggested a call is necessary.

This is a link to RIM for setting up this service. It may offer some additional info

Just a quick followup:
I did a security wipe, reinstalled the OS, did a 'resettofactory' apploader reinstall, all to no avail. The phantom e-mail icons reappeared every time.
Until ---
I went in to Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > Service Book > and there I deleted each reference to the unwanted e-mail addresses. Once I did that, the e-mail icons disappeared at last!
