Default I use filters, but I still get junk mail. Why?

Please Login to Remove!

I've set filters up on my BB account to filter out junk mail but I still get them. In the filter section, I setup a filter that states any email with subject line containing (mortgage, supplements, viagara) as an example, to not send to the handheld and put it in the deleted folder.

It does nothing but send it directly to my BB. What am I missing?

How exactly did you setup your filter? Is the filter in your email client or on the BB device itself?

No, it's through the web client. Is that where it is suppose to be?

LOL.. yeah, i've thought of that. But even something as simple as sex. I created that rule, then sent an email with the subject as sex. It came through with no problems.

Make sure you don't have it set up so that ALL those have to be in the subject line of a message. You want it set so that mortgage OR supplements OR xxxxxx. Or set up a separate filter for each.

THAT'S IT!! I've got it with commas seperating the words. So 'OR' is the way to go. Of course. I'm thought commas because that's how outlook works.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Didn't work.

This is exactly what I have in the last field. I have it set for the "Body" of the email.

supplements OR singles OR viagara OR love OR v!agara OR adult OR xxxxxx OR Viagara

Nothing. It's still letting them all through.

What i have found works best is to use gmail as a point were you forward all your emails to, then have gmail apply its great spam filters before it forwards to your BB, this will cut your spam to near nothing. I used to get over 200 spams a day and after gmail I am to about 4 a week. And its free.

I just made a filter that has "xxxxxx OR cialis" on my Gmail acct, then I sent a test msg with xxxxxx in the subject line, and it still came to my BB - what's wrong?

Then the Gmail suggestion from prior posts is a good one. Have your email forwarded to Gmail. DO NOT set auto-forward on Gmail. DO NOT set up the Cingular BIS to POP Gmail. Instead, set up a filter in Gmail. Include the words you want to filter out, and set that filter to forward to the Cingular BIS account only emails that do not contain any of those words. You can set your account name and reply-to address on the Cingular BIS website to your original email address.

Ok, so ket me get this straight. Forward emails from my accts to my Gmail acct, turn OFF forwarding n Gmail, create filter with all words I want to EXCLUDE, then set, in that filter, to forward to my BB account? I thought the forward section in the filter was a place to send the emails the filter actually catches, no? Also, do I set up the filter like this: xxxxxx OR cialis OR etc.?

Thanks!

you need to enter each word by itself, do not use the word "OR" and other filter words . . .

You mean I need a separate filter for each word?

The Gmail filter includes ability to filter based on "Has the words" or "Doesn't have". Put the words you want to filter into "Doesn't have" and then select the option to forward and enter your Cingular BIS address. I believe OR in caps works between multiple words.

EDIT: Just saw crisambo's post. I thought multiple words worked....but he may be right. Give it a try, and let me know.

Will try this, but now I am confused. How can I forward all accounts to Gmail to get filtered, then forward to BB and to computer inbox? That will start the Gmail forwarding cycle again. Is it possible to have my personal accounts filtered through Gmails filters then sent to my BB AND my computer inbox?

Set up a second filter in Gmail; put the exact same words in "Has the words" (just copy from first filter and paste into new one); and set that filter to send emails to Trash. That will get rid of the unwanted emails and leave only the emails forwarded to BIS in the Gmail Inbox. Then you can POP the Gmail Inbox from your computer, or just start using Gmail to file everything (I would recommend the latter).

Why doesn't the Cingular BIS filtering work?

Why do we have to go through these hoops to get a simple filter to work??
