Nextel has a spell checker written by Dynoplex, makers of eSpell. If you have a Nextel device, it's likely this is what you have.

Nevermind, I see you have a Nextel in your post. You likely have the "eSpell-lite" software.

It is the most used program on my Blackberry.

The program seams to figure out (85% of the time) words that complete butcher! Almost as good as Google.

It also has a dictionary and thesaurus

I have BBSpell from Some Developers on my BB (beta tested) for them as well, great app but I have to say the copy of BBCorrect some of my co-workers use is pretty solids as well.

is bbcorrector and bbspell fast?

i know it goes through a server over gprs-- doesn't this mean that the speed is dependant on the data speed. It seems to me that the software would take some time to load and correct, etc?

any impressions would be great. I really need a spell checker!

I can typically check an e-mail with bbSpell in about 5 seconds, including the ad that pops up on the screen (before the spell check) with the the somedevelopers ad-supported trial.

I'm expecting slightly better times if we host our own server.

Someone with experience in both can no doubt come up with a better list than I have here, but this is the list of Pros for bbSpell:

Can I ask you what the issue with the menu is from your point of view?

As I was testing, I found the eSpell menu text is probably too small for older users, the menu icons are not intuitive, and I found the contrast between the menu and the background to be insufficient (at least on my Nextel 7520).

On the other hand, I personally didn't have a problem using it and am pretty sure I would get used to the interface. Younger users are not likely to notice anything negative at all.

I'm not sure I can say the same for our users, although we will probably do further testing with eSpell and one other product.

I think there's an advantage to having the spell-checking interface mimic the regular BlackBerry menu structure. We support a very varied group of users, and the fewer new interfaces we have to train them on, the better.

I think it is "Stunning" that in the poll, espell went from 3 votes to 19 votes in a couple of hours today, and that the account "aleos" was created today in order to make the one post...

Most of the spelling products have free evaluation versions available. I strongly suggest users looking for a solution just try the different products as there are some pretty dramatic differences in feature set, performance, footprint/device support, and usability.

BTW, I did vote for bbSpell, but only once

I looked yesterday afternoon and eSpell (which I happen to use) was on about 12 or 13 votes then, not 3.

I don't know why anyone would consider it worthwhile to pad the poll. I put it there to help gain attention for the thread; it really doesn't serve any other purpose.

It doesn't matter to me whether more people use one product over the other (and this poll is hardly the way to determine that, anyway); what matters is how well it does its job and how well it fits my budget and my available resources.

I appreciate Sergey and Jeff being up front about who they are here, and I hope others will not try to skew the thread with pointless cheerleading.
