Anyone out there have a clue as to if the 9630 will get the new OS 6 update?

Nope.
Last I heard only the 512MB devices where capable of running it; i.e the 9650 and all to-be-released devices.

I thought the 9700 was getting OS 6 however. Maybe I am wrong

Well, theres the contradiction.
To release an OS that all current (bar one) devices cannot use, would seem to be stupid; yet if OS 6 requires 512MB, and it will be released to 256MB devices; then its not going to run particularly well.

We're just gonna have to wait for details.

I hope that the 9630 is not a "one hit wonder"...

In my opinion, the 9630 was hands down the worst BlackBerry that RIM ever produced.
It was never a hit at all.

Calling it the worst is a bit of a stretch, but I agree it was not a hit.

Edit: before anyone asks -- Storm 1?

I'd consider the Tour the worst as well.. I lacked so many featured for be released well after the Bold 9000. Very disappointing.. I even skipped this one LOL.

We had rumors of the Tour2 barely one month after it's initial release.

Sigh. I didn't know the deal about a 512MB requirement, or the rumor that it is a requirement, or whatever. I was still living in the world where the 9700 would be running it one day.

I had more problems on my Tour than on any other BlackBerry I've ever owned. I don't know if it RIM's worst device, but it was definitely MY worst device!

What I'm hearing is that OS 6 will indeed be only for devices with 512MB of internal memory, but models like the 9700 will get updated versions of 5.0 that will include *some* of the features of OS 6. But it will not get a version of OS 6.

I just hope OS 6 doesn't turn out like OS 5 on the 8330 where it gets too bogged down with other stuff to function smoothly.

The first Storm was the worst. Barely barely beta. Borderline commercial crime taking money from people for that crock.

I haven't had that many issues with my tour. Track ball getting stuck...but other then that work as well as my 9700 I use for work! And I would have to agree with kurichan storm before major os update had been the worst blackberry experience I'd had to date!

I thought I read that in terms of getting the new OS, the fact that the 256 MB 9700 was getting it was impacted by it having a trackpad as opposed to a trackball in terms of memory.
