Default Is it time to bail on RIM yet?

Please Login to Remove!

I mean it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that RIM is just going to gradually update their phones, play it safe and by 2012 you will probably see OS 7. I can only imagine how far behind they would be at that point.

when I think about a blackberry compared to an Iphone, it's like a pager compared to a cell phone at this point. RIM makes really smart pagers that happen to make calls and run a few apps. An iphone (or android) is a smartphone or personal computer in your pocket.

I mean invent like a 3 day battery life phone or some other gimmick because I really don't know what these guys are selling anymore for the same price as everything else.

Anyway it was fun while it lasted but unless RIM or carriers start giving these things away I can't see why anyone would want to pay 200 dollars for the latest BB. 200 dollars is a really expensive pager in my book.

3 day battery? My 8330 was getting close to that consistently. My EVO (Android) is lucky if it makes it a full 24 hours.

Hot today not tomorrow that's the mobile business. Look at win mob and palm both had there day at the top and now where are they. So who can say...my personal thoughts are they have a few more chances to get it right before they become an afterthought.

And you are right about pagers and cell phones.
You see, a Blackberry is not your every day, every one type of phone. Blackberry is a BUSINESS device mainly that is intended for those who have a like need. The iPhone on the other hand is geared toward that "cool" crowd, the ones who buy impulsively and hang out at after-hour joints.
I'm not criticizing either, but pointing out that they are two different phones aimed at two different crowds. And since there are more iPhone types than Blackberry types, the field will always be uneven.
But all in all, it will always be a Blackberry.

The time for anyone to give up on BlackBerry is when something else works better for you. When that day comes for me, I'll move on. However, seeing as how the BlackBerry platform fits my needs so perfectly right now, I expect Satan will be wearing a parka and mukluks when that day finally comes.

Blackberries are not very good at entertaining but when it comes down to being fast, getting back to coworkers email and answering at any time its always been there for me. RIM BlackBerry has come a long way but also have the xxx8220;other phonesxxx8221; BlackBerry spends its time not recreating a new phone but just making the old one better true blackberry users donxxx8217;t have time to adjust to touch screens or virtual keyboards BlackBerry users need the phone to stay up to date easy to use and familiar.

Sigh.

Some people need to figure out that a Ford doesn't profit by making Chevys, and vice versa.

My hope is that the original poster had experiences beyond the 8830 which is showing in the person's profile

Let me say I went and got a Captivate and I do not regret it. I posted in the android forum about it. So all you RIM folks make fun and deal with your antiquated phones.
Even the torch ain't going to compare. I saw a demo and it's still the same old phone. So I hope the 6.0 os is the answer for you, but it can't compare to what the screen looks like on this.
Plus I don't know why but I have better reception even in the areas where I use to complain to att about. It works in downtown ny, where I would not have reception.
