Lightbulb HOWTO: Using Blackberry for TomTom Services

Please Login to Remove!

Maybe I missed them, but I was unable to find any step by step instructions how to use my Blackberry Curve 8320 for TomTom data services, so I've created some.

On the TomTom site, it only lists the 8310 as tested / compatible, but I believe that this shoud work on all TomTom / Blackberry / Data Service combinations. I have no way of testing anything but what I use. Please try it out and let everyone know what other combinations work (or not).

Equiment:
Blackberry Curve 8320 (OS 4.5.0.124)
TomTom One #3 (App 7.903 OS:2344)

Service:
T-Mobile (US) with Blackberry Data Plan

TOMTOM: Go into Change Preferences, Show All Menu Options

BLACKBERRY: Delete any previous Bluetooth connections to the TomTom. Go into Manage Connections, Set Up Bluetooth. Select Cancel if "Add Device" pops up. Highlight the TomTom if it is there and choose Delete Device.

TOMTOM: Delete any previous connections on the TomTom. Go into Manage Phones. If it asks you if you want to stay paired to your device, answer No.

BLACKBERRY: Make your Blackberry temporarily discoverable. Go into Manage Connections, Set Up Bluetooth, then Options.

TOMTOM: Go into Change Preferences. Enable Bluetooth AND Wireless Data

TOMTOM: Go into Manage Phones. Let it search and answer Yes to connect

TOMTOM: Let it find your Blackberry, click Yes to connect

BLACKBERRY: Enter 0000 when prompted for passkey.

TOMTOM: Click on Continue and then Yes to Set up for PLUS services

BLACKBERRY: Enable "Don't ask this again" and click Yes on Accept Connection

TOMTOM: Choose TMobile SDA (or other smartphone from your carrier)
  1. Select Your country (United States, in my case)
  2. Select T Mobile USA (I) (or your carrier)
  3. Click on Manual and insure that the proper gateway is displayed for your carrier. In my case (T Mobile), I changed to wap.voicestream.com
  4. Click OK
  5. Leave user name blank and click OK (for T-Mobile)
  6. Leave password blank and click OK (for T-Mobile)
  7. Click on Automatic for DHCP (for T-Mobile)
  8. Click on Automatic for DNS (for T-Mobile)
  9. Leave *99# for number and click OK (for T-Mobile)
  10. Click on Skip for sending info to TomTom
  11. Click on Continue
  12. Click on Continue

TOMTOM: PLUS Services, TomTom Weather.

Choose a location. It should work!
