Default 8700 for t-mobile delima

Please Login to Remove!

Here's is the delima I am in right now (we currently have a 500 min. family share plan with 2 lines and i have a blackberry 7100)

I can do 1 of 3 things:

1) I can buy a phone on ebay or some other 3rd party for 400-500-600-700 bucks and sign no contract and buy my wife a seperate phone. This could be very pricey and im messing with the risk of unlocking.

2) I can wait for amazon.com to offer a similar rebate as cingular and buy it that way getting probably 100-150 for the phone but signing an agreement and possibly paying more for internet???

3) buy at a t-mo store. Possibly i would get a discount of 50-100 and get waived activation from starting a new service (my contract is up this month).
Im in a new contract this way though as well and i also have the risk of higher monthly internet.

What suggestion do you guys have? I pay 19.99 for unlimited internet browsing and i noticed t-mobiles internet option for amazon deals is 29.99????

Find a local non-TMO reseller who might be willing to renew your contract (taking commission) to cut you a discount on that BB...

I Believe $29.99 is the Blackberry only plan without a voice plan. Any voice plan, than I understand the Blackberry add on is $19.99. Since you are on a 500 minute family plan, that is your voice part. T-Mo assumes you will use a share of the 500 with the BB. If you are still un clear call T-Mo and talk with a CSR about their pricing.

As far as a new activation Duck has a good idea. Or got to T-Mo and pay the fee to upgrade.

Good Luck

Call the tmo "cxl dept" and tell them you are gonna take your business elswhere if you can't make an equitable(from your standpoint) deal. If they won't budge give'm the boot and sign up a NEW line in another subscribers (wife?)Name. Tmo has 1500minandBB plan for $59.99- not sure how many lines you need but if wife gets 1500 plan u get 3000 min and 1 BB for 100 a month! Try that with the BIG boys. YMMV

Hey everyone, I'm in a similar situation. I have had T-Mobile going on four months now. I recently graduated and got a job and use my corporate e-mail a TON. I really would like to pick up the 8700 when it is released in a week or two. I currently have the 1500 minutes and night and weekends for $49.99 along with the 400 txt messages for $4 I believe. As of right now, from reading this thread, it's looking like I will just have to pay the $399 to buy it outright (as I am only four months into my contract) and add the Blackberry plan for $19.99 a month onto that correct? Is there any way that on the day it's released I will be able to get it for less than $399? Thanks everyone!

It is really hard to tell what your price would be without looking it up. Every T-Mo customer gets a different pricing of our handsets. It is always based on how long have they been with us and when was the last time they used their handset upgrade discount, what kind of rate plan are they under in, etc. Best way to do it is to go visit your local T-Mo corporate store and talk to one of our sales reps.

Just talked to the rep. She didn't know much of anything. She told me it would be released on the 15th at the $399 price point. I asked if I could pre-order one and have it shipped as soon as it was released and billed to my acct, that was a no go. It's lookin like I'm just gonna have to find a T-Mobile corporate store in my area and try and buy one on the day it comes out.

That is the only way. I know that it would be coming out mid-April and the $399 new activation price. No price yet on upgrade eligible T-Mo customers. Just keep calling your favorite T-Mo corporate store to find out.

Earpon,
Is there a chance for me to be able to get it for less than the $399 price point even though I am only on month 4 of my one year contract? What if I were to extend for another year?

Go to your local T-Mo Corporate store and discuss your options with your sales rep once the phone comes out.

I think the upgrade price also depends on your monthly charges on T-Mobile. My bill has been typically $1000/month and twice $3000+ so when the 8700 is officially available from TMO, I am going to get my second one. YES...I roam a lot!

Default T-Mobile Dillema - Possibly solved??

I am in the same situation. The only difference is my current contract expires in May. But just like other blackberry addicts, I dont want to wait. Also, from what I hear, even if the 8700 will be available as an upgrade, there wont be much of a price drop. So I'm thinking it would cost me at least 300.

I stumbled across a retailer site ushopwireless and they're offering preorders for NEW accounts only. They offer it for $99 after a $100 rebate.
I called T-Mobile and they said that one person can have 2 separate accounts open. I plan to use my current Sim card until the contract expires next month. And then I can cancel my current service. The only issue is the phone number porting. The T-Mobile rep told me that I wont be able to port since its within the same provider and I'd have to keep that number (or get a new one). If I really am not able to port, since I really need to keep my number, I plan to go to another provider (maybe AT&T), create new service, and port my number there. Once my number is ported, I should be able to port it back into T-Mobile, then I can cancel the AT&T as well as my current T-Mobile service.
I know its a pain, but I think this is the only solution to upgrade and save a few bucks. Any opinions on this?? Thanks. Good luck.

if you want an 8700 and cant wait then spend some money. Look in the 4sale threads on this forum. I picked up my 8700 in awesome condition for 245 shipped to my door. so for under 300 i had an 8700c, unlocked, working great on tmobile and a huge smile.

shop smart and you can get what you want for cheap. Also there will probally be alot of people out there that want the tmo edition and will be selling their unlocked 8700c's cheap.

Is that place taking preorders reputable? Sounds kinda risky to me. I bet Amazon.com will do the deal they had for the 8700c on cingular. Free at one point and now just rebates to $100 which is very reasonable.

I purchased the 7100t from them for $10 and I chose to do business with them again for the 8700g.
