SAP does equal alot of $$$, but it also eats alot of time too, we are actually working with SAP to beta test the new CRM solution, but the beta wont even be available for full blown testing until this fall. Also remember, you have to run at least CRM 6 on the back end, they prefer you use CRM 2007 of course. Also the rest of the SAP Suite is still up in the air at this point, they want to see how CRM goes over first and then let the customers decide on what they need.
I work for a company that has one of the largest SAP installs in North America, and let me just say, it isnt that easy to play around with.
