Does anyone know if there is a Curve replacement on the way? The bold looks to me as an 8800 replacement and was wondering if there is a curve replacement. The curve came out a few months after the 8800 last year and don't want to buy the bold if there is another one coming out. I know if I wait there will always be one coming out but not a huge fan of the bold at least by the pictures, may like it when seen in person.

i'd consider the bold a curve replacement. it has a camera which was basically the defining feature in my opinion.

I wouldn't. It is obviously the same size and style of the 8800 series, and a very similar keyboard. The Curve is noticeably smaller with a very different keyboard from the Bold/8800 series.

Yep, but keep in mind the 8100 is 3 years old and the pearl 2 devices just launched end of last year. The year time for replacement isnt necessarily a rule. I think RIM is looking to expand its current offerings (more choices - more customers will want different styles - more sales) instead of replacing models. Keep in mind beginning of next year (probably not the end of this, but its possible) there will be an iDEN berry coming out to round out everything.

iDEN
CDMA 1x, EvDO
CDMA/GSM 1x, EvDO, HSDPA/UMTS, GSM
GSM
Touchscreen
PTT
3G/2G
Full QWERTY
Suretype
WiFi
GPS

and a slew of other features that are common to many. Obviously many of these features are common between various models, but some are different than others.

I and everyone else should refuse to buy ANY new cell/smart phone for ever, until such time as the manuacturers agree to allow us to use their phones with ANY CARRIER we choose. If no one buys a new phone for 12 months, who do you think will win?

I suppose I would feel the same way if I had Verizon also. One reason I switched to att.

The Bold is there to replace the 88XX series, proof is when you load up blackberry.com and it goes through the Bold video, it then shows the pearl, curve, and Bold with no 88XX series to be found.

There you have it.

if you want to shell out the extra money for a dual band GSM/CDMA phone...be my guest. it's gonna be a whopping amount. i'd rather have my carrier be familiar with my phone and offer full tech support for it. verizon allows you to have any CDMA phone on their network now (that meets certain criteria) but then they refuse to offer troubleshooting services for the device besides basic features that are used on the network.

dude, thats the story of life. there millions of scenarios that we could think of, for instance, nobody should buy gas until the prices come down. would it help? hell yeah. is it possible? no way.

Reminds me of the chain letter emails stating a day to boycott a certain gas company to affect prices.

It's a beautiful thought, but no go. I belive I saw somewhere on here that there's lawsuits in progress to get phones that aren't carrier locked. But what isn't there a lawsuit for these days...

The newer Curves just came out, so a 2009 release should not be a surprise as selected carriers are unloading their inventories.

The Javelin is going to be the Curve's replacement and the Bold is going to be the 88xx replacements.
