Angry TMobile Hijacked my BB Browser

Please Login to Remove!

Hi I have had a 8100 for around a year now and at the start things worked great, but a couple of months back, my Carrier (T-Mobile) came out with an update that was to fix my Fav-5's which would periodically lock up - that is now working fine, but... now I cannot change any of my browser settings.

I used to be able to select IE emulation and so on, along with a number of other options but after the update/patch I only have Tzone in the list. Is there any way to take back my browser from Tmo's insane death-grip?

Do/can I remove the update/patch and if so how, is this a similar practice to flashing my Razr? Or is there an easier way to re-enable the old functionality of my browser.

I can't even change the opening home page - it just sucks!

Any help is appreciated, please inc. links if I need to download anything to fix this.

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie, upgrading the OS might be what you need, really.

Will this not disable/remove my T-Mobile Fav-5's feature and such?

I save a great deal of money using this feature so don't want to lose it, but then again I don't want to lose my Browser either.

I will wait to hear back before I proceed.

Thanks for the fast reply too!

Also if I do apply this update, is there any means to remove it again, or rather overwrite it with my existing setup.

Thanks

The TMo 5Favs app will be added, if you delete the vendor file as mentioned in the instructions.

I think you will be fine. One, know that even IF you didn't have the 5Fav app installed on your BB, it still gives you the savings on the plan, i.e., TMo knows who you are calling and credits it to your 5Favs plan.

But an upgrade will still include your 5Favs plan if you delete the vendor.xml file as stated.

REALLY?

The lying, cheating bar-stewards. They told me I needed to purchase a new *special* Fav5 phone from them for the Fav5 service to work. Son-of-a-biscuit, I had just purchased a new phone a few months before changing my plan too.

Well thank you JS, at least now I know that I can use my old phone too.

Regards,
Charlie

I can confirm that too, I run a "my-faves non-capable" device in Tmo's eyes and I still get the savings on my plan. I just had to tell them that I replaced my 8700 with a pearl and then they would add the my favs to my account....never really did buy the new phone

Ditto. We got favs for our family plan. Wife and daughter have pearls; I have to manage mine on the TMO website. That isn't to say TMO would have sold us the fav plan without at least one fav capable phone on the plan -- I don't know the answer to that question.

Yeah guys, that makes sense... they prob required me to buy the phone to be compliant with their service agreement rather than it being for a technical reason. Thank you for helping me see that in a new perspective.

Edit:
Well I just started the update, so the only questions I have now is... If I don't like the new version for any reason, how do I go back to an older version? Do I simply repeat the process with the version of my choice or is there some special steps that I need to take?

Again, you have all been great, I know nothing of Blackberry's so this is very helpful and appreciated!

Thank you,
Charlie

Question

OK, so I have finished the update, my My-Faves ('Fav5' as I have been incorrectly calling it) is still there -though the icons for each listing have not been restored, no biggie- but the original browser is still not available and the settings for the Tzone substitute are still locked.

Any ideas?

Sounds like your data plan got changed to the minimal T-Zones plan. The options offered by the browser are in part governed by what T-Mobile sends down to the phone about your data plan.

Well I just checked and I am subscribed to the T-Mobile BlackBerry Unlimited Add-on which says 'Add access to BlackBerry's powerful data functionality to a voice rate plan. The BlackBerry Unlimited Add-on includes unlimited BlackBerry Web Client e-mail and Web browsing.'

The only option above that is the BlackBerry Unlimited w/Enterprise Email Add-on which says 'Add access to BlackBerry corporate data features to a voice rate plan. BlackBerry Unlimited w/Enterprise E-mail, for use with BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) software, includes unlimited BES access, BlackBerry Web Client e-mail, and Web browsing.'

What plans/options are other T-Mobile customers on here subscribing to?

Also, you may need to go to Host Routing Table in Advanced Options and open menu and select Register Now.

Dude, you shouldn't be having any problem with the browser, I used the pearl for about a year with the latest software downloads from tmo and had no issues. Click on your browser>options>configuration>highlight tzones and change to internet browser, do the same under general properties. If its not letting you change then its probably not your phone, call tmo's blackberry support and they should be able to make some changes to get things up and running. As far as my faves, I've seen alot of people with problems changing their my faves online, instore, or over the phone when they don't have a my faves phone. Thats why they insist you have one. The best thing to do is stick your sim in a my fav phone, change your contact and wait untill you receive the verification text from them, once you get that on a phone.. your good to go.

Well I don't think I need to tell you that this is becoming anoying!

I just went to My T-Mobile and resent my service book, got the SMS message and then went to my Host Routing Table in advanced options and then registered on one of the entries. I then pulled the battery and waited for 30 seconds then turned the phone back on... still no BlackBerry Browser.

I see 'Set up Internet E-mail' and 't-zones', but no 'BlackBerry Browser' menu item. And within the t-zone browser options I cannot change the emulation mode, home (start-up) page or anything like that.

Any other T-Mobile customers using the Pearl having the same issue?

I'm losing track of where we are. Has the browser icon been accidently hidden? However you do it on your model--say, as if you were going to move an icon--do that but click show all. Does the browser icon appear after you do that?

Charlie, on your BB, press ALT and ESCAPE (the key right of the trackball). SLOWLY keep clicking the escape key to scroll through the open applications.
--Homescreen, Phone, Address Book, BBMessenger AND Browser???? I hope, is that one in there?
