Exclamation Is anyone using a 9700 on AT&T Now

Please Login to Remove!

I just bought a unlocked 9700 and am attempting to use it on AT&T. The issue im having is it only shows lower case edge. I called at&t and they forwarded me to RIM who told me that I cant get emails to work or internet until at&t has the needed info on there network for that device. It doesnt make sence, ive used other unlocked BB's on at&t and never had an issue. Can anyone advise?

Even when I try and put in the pin and imei number on the blackberry inetrnet email it tells me that it is invalid.

You could have bought (likely) a pre-production model which has had the PIN locked?

What is the vendor ID on the device?

Where did you get the phone when it isn't available yet? That alone tells me that it is not an authorized release, and therefore will likely be invalidated by RIM (and may already have been).

Good luck.

RIM/AT&T did this with the 9000 as well in an attempt to control the release of equipment to certain market.

If the PIN is locked, I don't believe there is anything that can be done. My understanding is that locked PINs are a result of unauthorized devices floating around. RIM disables them so they have no value.

Unfortunately, unscrupulous people will sell these devices (and they may be working at the time of sale) without regard for RIM's likely action of disabling them and how that leaves the buyer in a bad situation.

If you are unhappy with the current state of the device, you should try to get your money back ASAP. As the others have stated, there are little to no guarantees on pre-production devices, and what you are experiencing is usually what happens.

Until AT&T or anyone else gets the PIN and IMEI info on the 9700, they don't have it in there system.
It is therefore not recognised.
As the 9700 hasnt been released yet, they dont have the info, so no one can use the device that needs info on the PIN.

RIM has told you this, not some random person.
I would think RIM would know what they are talking about.

All you can do is wait until the 9700 is released, so that AT&T have the info and you can proceed to use it.

This is of course, if the device isnt a pre-production unit, and hasnt already been locked down by RIM.

are you trying to use BIS or BES? I think RIMs comments only apply to BIS

Because from my understanding (based on RIM's BIS/BES training) - the carrier does very little for BES customers, other than funnel data between RIMs network and the blackberry device

Also, I'm using a 9700 with BES, on a carrier who has not required me to do anything special in order to use it (just swap sim + enterprise activation as normal)

I keep getting a lower case edge, so i am unable to get any data. Im told that it is because the phone has not been offically released so no service books are available as of yet. When AT&T try and enter the IMEI number it shows up as a pearl. I dont use the BES, just blackberry internet email

Have you tried this: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-t-mobile.html I know it is for the Storm, but it helps AT&T users with a Storm to go from lower edge to EDGE or in your case 3G (if it has AT&T 3G data freq.). Please let me know if this works.
