Default Tmobile 9700 3G UMTS 2100/1700/850

Do you guys know if the new t-mobile 9700 will work on the 3G network in Japan? I know it's UMTS, but will the 850mhz band cover the 800mhz? I know that the AT&T version that has 2100/1900/850/800 and it works there.

No, if the band is 850, its 850. It wont do 800.
You'd need the AT&T version of the 9700.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Softbank uses the 2100 band for WCDMA/UMTS, so wouldn't the t-mo version work there?

Don't worry, TMO 9700 will work in Japan. Both Softbank and DoCoMo support 2100 UMTS. I was using my Bold 1 there in September. Full signal almost everywhere I went.

Question

Do you have any further details, Harry? I have tried changing the supported UMTS bands via Engineering but nothing seems to update. I get no errors either.

It's funny how those that say the bands can be changed dissapear after asked to elaborate and prove their statements.
