Default "Ergot Madness" makes town go crazy, really CIA?

Please Login to Remove!

I had read up about this happening awhile ago and had looked into it out of curiousity. I basically read the story of a French town where everyone went mad one day, and they linked it back to ergot, a form of mold that has similar properties to Lysergic acid diethylamide, better known as LSD.

I thought it was such an interesting story that this bread the town ate was infected with this mold, people went mad and danced in the streets. I used to experiment a lot in my younger days so I always find this kind of thing interesting. (Hey, I'm good now )

Funnily enough, I came along this article today, about the same town and incident I had read about awhile ago, with new developments. The CIA is alledgedly behind the whole incident.

French bread spiked with LSD in CIA experiment - Telegraph

I put this in the sensitive area due to drugs and CIA conspiracies.

What do you guys think? It seemed like such a neater story until I found out it's been linked back to CIA LSD experiments, though those are interesting as well. The idea of Ergot Madness affecting a whole town just always got me.

I read about this some years ago when I was interested in witch trials and if anything could explain the strange behavior that occured. Ergot poisoning was a likely suspect as there was a pattern between years that ergot formed in contaminated rye due to the weather, areas that rye grew, areas that had "witch" problems, the local jewish population which was blamed sometimes (it appears that jews were the local bakers in more than a few cases) and the church hiearchy that tried to control everything and ended up torturing and killing people because the "devil" had got them.

The French town that had the ergot poisoning after WW2 was mentioned as the population had the same reported behavior that was reported in Salem MA prior to the witch trials there. It was assumed, and I thought that the rye was tested, that the rye bread was the carrier.

Now if this could actually be proven then it would be rather interesting for the CIA. Most of the people that would have been involved are most likely old or dead by now. The problem is that it would be almost impossible to prove one way or the other and there would be people who would not believe the true answer whatever it may be.

On the other hand you need to remember that our government has given radiation poisoning to American civilians, gave VD to a target black group, gave drugs to military personel and has lied on more than more occasion. I give the possibility of 50 percent on this one.

I'm happy someone else has a interest in this as well. I haven't looked too much into the witch trials, but ergot being a part of it does explain where some of those accusations stem from. The way it's protrayed on tv, it seems more random, or without reason.

I doubt this will get proven, but it does highlight something. The scientist mentioned in the article, I actually read up on him, and saw a show once where a blacked out interviewer stated that the army gave him acid and pushed him out of that window because of his involvement with these experiements. Seeing him now connected to this one definately makes sense.

The government of many countires has done many innappropriate things in the past, and when we think back we say it's because we didn't know any better. Just wait 20 years from now, we'll think the same when something like this arises today.

I still wouldn't be surprised if this gets concluded as simply being ergot poisioning, and I doubt it will go much further than that. I give it about 50/50 as well.
