GPS worked all day today, and even Find Location>Where am I worked inside my house.

Local Search is flaky....it seemed to cache results and gave the same answer for two different searches (Sushi and Mexican showed the same restaurants) and persisted until I cleared the map and started over. Repeatable issue...

Also, though it says "Google Search Results" the Local Search results page, the the search results are really poor compared to an actual Google search in the browser....BB Maps Local Search brings up 3 restaurants, actual Google Search brings up multiple pages....

The results should be the same...unfortunate.

Exclamation Geotagging

I have a VZW BB 8330 running 4.5.0.77. I am able to get BB maps to locate me using GPS, but if I enable geotagging in the camera application I just get the red x over the pic of the satellite. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

Geotagging doesn't appear to be enabled yet for those who tried, however, one person did post that they had it working in the 8100 forum, but haven't seen anyone verify, or the person who posted clarify how and what he did.

ahh, thanks! Kinda feel like a Duh.....moment now! haha

Unfortunately, Im getting the spinning wheels "Searching for Satellites" all of a sudden.

Just in case I inadvertantly messed something up on my own..I should have the following set:

OPTIONS > ADVANCED > GPS
GPS Data Source - only available option right now says "Device GPS"
GPS Service "Location On" NOT 911 Only.

OPTIONS > ADVANCED > MAPS
Default Service shows BlackBerry Maps - NA

OPTIONS > ADVANCED > SERVICE BOOK - current shows BlackBerry Maps -NA [LbsConfig]

finally...
in my Maps app > options GPS Source is Internal GPS

Default Service again shows Blackberry Maps - NA

That's all correct...if things don't start working again, you can do the normal...

- Make sure you're outside w/a clear view of the sky - for me the internal GPS is useless indoors
- Battery pull
- Send service books

Thanks for the quick response!

Suggestion #1: I confess I didn't even think of that! Will try tomorrow!

Suggestion #2: I have tried that but not thinking of it "fixing" my problem. I just keep a 2nd battery charging on my docking station. So, I can attest that when I did a battery swap today, still no go...

Suggestion #3: Thought of that but never DID it..Grrrrr....As well, I will try tomorrow if suggestion #1 doesn't work...Hospital Dilaudid is kicking in, nicely.

Chris

It's already unlocked for BB...

(before you say "only for BB Maps", let me point out that people are reporting that Garmin Mobile works on Verizon phones)

Sorry to Bump an old thread.

But if you want a truly unlocked aGPS youll need to input the aGPS IP and Port #. This is to the firmware and not to the OS so You will need your SPC (000000) and QPST

8130 qpst 2.7 build 301 Surf6300-BB
8330 qpst 2.7 build 215 Surf6300-BB
9530 qpst 2.7 build 301 Surf7500-A

In QPST Service Programming Press read from phone and inpout your SPC then go to the gpsONE tab and input the IP and Port

Verizon:
PDE IP Address: 66.174.95.132
PDE Port number: 8888
PDE Transport: IP
Position Calculation: Mobile

When you press write to phone you'll get an error and your phone will reboot but this is normal.

How does one access QPST Service Programming? Is that a piece of software that we can get from somewhere? Is it something on the phone and we just need instructions on how to access it?

Just google QPST it will come up. QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tool) is an application developed by Qualcomm for cellular phones that feature Qualcomm chipsets. You can write to the firmware with it. You'll need you SPC but I think all Verizon's are set to 000000.

I did up a two part guide. Part two is by Unibomber of HoFo.
I need 10 posts for the link.

For Verizon just skip the SPC part

I'm a bit confused here. I performed the QPST changes, entering in the Verizon info above for my Verizon Curve, but I still can't recognize GPS with any of my programs (Where, Beyond411, Garmin, etc). Am I missing something? Is this supposed to unlock GPS for all programs?

Yes, BB Maps worked as soon as I upgraded to 4.5. I thought maybe doing the QPST changes would open up GSP for additional applications. Is that not correct?

Finally Verizon users can use Spot and other 3rd party apps on their BB.

Have you got these applications to work or are you just making an assumption? I haven't been able to get anything except BB Maps to work using the instructions above.
