That happens the first time after a reboot on some themes. Try it again...

upgrade completed - no major difference that I can see - maybe faster, but was on O2 already, so not sure what benefit to I get here, but did it anyways

Golly: another update another disappointment. Then again, I am not sure what's a utopia-like upgrade is. I am sticking with my original T-Mo's version.

I have updated the ALX thread, for those wanting the unlocked themes.

OK, I am clueless.
What does it mean and where's that thread?
And jibi, between you and I: Is it worth all the fuss to upgrade?

(Someone with over 7K posts ought to know...lol)

Some say it's a little faster...but I'm not chomping at the bit yet...

Jibi's updated .alx files make it easy to add the packaged themes.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/ring...-4-2-only.html

It simply unlocks the other carrier themes. I honestly have these extra carrier/vendor themes on my Pearl now because I test the ALX files I modify before I post them for the rest of the world. But some people like the other carrier themes (I used to love the Vodafone Today theme, for instance). Personally speaking, if you like what you currently use, they aren't needed and take up space. There is a white-based Zen theme (exactly like the default blue-based theme) with pink-accented lettering that you may like, though.

As for the upgrade, I've only had it on my device for a few minutes. I'm not really all that picky with some of the 'issues' that others have had (for example, the myFaves issue doesn't bother me one bit). Aside from me answering a call and the other person not being able to hear me until after I say 'hello' four times (or they decide to talk), then I've not really had any issues with the 8100 yet (although I will say that my thread on the Lock/Unlock issue does outline one of my bigger gripes about OS 4.2).

Keep in mind that I've only used the OS you have loaded for approximately 5 seconds, though. I've been using the two previous versions since before they were released by any carriers, and now I just upgraded to this one (no source for this one, unfortunately).

P.S. - For the record, applications still hourglass for a millisecond before they open on my device. Not sure if others are experiencing actual improved performance or not, but I really never cared about the hourglassing in the first place - it never was seconds and seconds.

I'm actually glad to hear, in a way, that even you have the incoming call lag. I don't feel so bad that I can't get rid of it.

NJ says he doesn't have it and nobody he works with has it. thought maybe it was something we were doing to it.

i have upgraded my pearl to this os version and...

-the lag on the phantom theme is unbearable. There was no lag on the .64 o2.
-as others said.. the phone is much zippier.. there is no lag on the tmobile theme at all.

kinda bummed that the phantom theme is slow. i think i will remove it and reinstall it see if that helps.

I didn't realize that was what everyone was talking about. I've had it since day one, although it only happens some of the time (definitely not all of the time).

This is what i've noticed so far.

1-Definitelly faster, thumbnail viewing is faster than my previous T-mo OS 64.

2- The caps icon over signal strengh meter now gone.

3- The screen is definitelly dimmer.

That's all for now.

I heard that by holding down " alt + LGLG " and clearing your logs reduces the lag on the phantom theme.

I don't have it all the time either but enough of the time to be annoying...

this is driving me nuts! i have upgraded from the rogers os to the o2 version and back to rogers in the past but i cant seem to upgrade to this version. i have updated the dm and i have tried to run the upgrade program several times but it will not upgrade. when i enter the application loader wizard it does not seem to be able to find the newest software. when i check the details and look at the modules it shows both the installed and available software as being the rogers version .51

can anyone point me in the right direction? i have tried rebooting my computer a few times too!!
