No, they are both Droid phones. One is the Motorola Droid, and the other is the HTC Droid Eris. Check these details:

HTC Droid Eris: http://www.htc.com/us/product/droideris/overview.html

Incorrect. They are both called Droid. My new Eris has "DROID" right across the middle of the box. Just like my wife's Motorola A855. One is called the A855, the other is the Eris. But....

They are both Droids.

Yeah. It's funny how people think they know what they are talking about when they don't. They try to correct you when they are the ones that are wrong.

Interesting. I suppose then we should just let people provide incorrect information here? At least, that's what I understand from the snide comment. Fine with me.

I think Verizon is confusing the whole Droid name thing, why am I not surprised. Based on the Verizon commercials and just about every review on line that I've seen, the Droid name is associated with the Motorola device. Most customers are simply not that tech savvy and will go into the store looking for the Droid, assuming its the Motorola device they've seen in the commercials.

You're right about that. "Droid" has definitely been linked to the Motorola Droid, and is certainly due to the ominous Droid marketing campaign by Verizon. Heck, when I first saw the Droid Eris, I thought about the Motorola Droid and assumed the Eris was some sort of offshoot.

2 week update with my Motorola Fred...

Went to the Verizon store today to play with the Curve2... I hoped it was going to make me convert back.... Not a chance! The Curve2 is nice but I left disappointed with it.. Now my next test will come with the Tour2....

Still loving the Fred... Getting a little better on the keyboard but it's night and day when compared to a BB keyboard... I still can't see typing a lengthy email on the Fred as can easily be done on the BB..

Other than that, I am still very pleased with the Fred... The screen is awesome and I love the widgets.....

No lock ups, reboots or freezes yet with the Fred... Boot time is about 30 seconds and then about another 2 seconds for my widgets to update. Voice quality is good and the echo I was getting is gone so I can oly assume that was a network issue and not with my Fred...

I tested out wifi and it works, that's about all I can say since I never use it... The camera works as I took a photo with it to test it out.. Have not used it since but people have complained about the camera on it.. Supposedly there is a fix for it scheduled with a Dec 11th update.. Don't really care though as I never use the camera...

Other than that, it scoots right along, the screen is gorgeous, email works fine, and I am still lovin my Motorola Fred...

That is all for now...

Yup, I agree with you. There is NO way to type on the droid as quickly and efficiently as a BB.

Also, occasionally the gmail does NOT "push" thru immediately. It could take hours. (I've tried all the solutions posted on other threads...to no avail.) That's a deal-breaker for me.

AND, the droid wont bluetooth-connect to my car. Another potential deal breaker. Waiting to hear about "fixes."

Otherwise, as mentioned, I keep finding new things to love about the phone. Downloaded the handcent app. Very nice. The "talk" feature is great. Still, though, I can type an email or text on the BB much faster than talking and hitting send.

Like I said earlier, this is more of a "toy" than a business medium.

No issues with my Fred getting email... Gmail is instant and my pop accounts poll every 5 minutes..

I would not describe the Fred as a "toy" as it is a very capable device... It has it's limitations just as anything does.. It boils down to what you want / need from the device...

For me, as a general run of the mill consumer, it meets all my needs and then some... Now would I use the Fred as a bizz tool? No way.... I'd use a BB if it was a strict bizz decision..

My .02 on my Motorola Fred...

WRT the BT issues, I've seen many say they can connect but cannot voice dial with it, so calls come in and ring, but they can't call out without using the phone. However on the Mini Cooper forum they say their Droid/Freds connect fine, but I haven't gotten an answer on the voice dialing thing (you have to train the Mini's BT to recognize the names and then it will dial the number, it won't just go to your address book).

Come to think of it my numbers and voice commands are stored in my Audi so I don't know if it could dial out without that...

It connects just fine though... I might have to delete one from the memory of my Audi and see if it will let me voice dial via the device...

Anytime I see someone mention any other device besides a BB being a "toy" I immediately deem the whole post as fan boi dribble. Maybe I'll start calling BBs "pagers". Its just as accurate as calling other devices "toys".

I've had a BB for 5 years. During that time I played with all the new smartphones/PDA's to hit the market, and, yes, they are toys.

Why do I say that? Because when you go to the (iphone, droid et al) forums; the majority of questions are about apps, touch, finger swipes, screens, widgets, music, movies and all other kinds of things that are a lot of fun, but not much to do with someone conducting business. Just because a "phone" has tons of gadgets and widgets doesn't make it a better product than one with less bells and whistles.

It is clear that BB's are made for business. Communication is paramount. Everything else is secondary. On other "phones" there are so many distractions and veils until you finally get to the "business" function.

It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with a droid, iphone or the people that love them.

I still have my droid and curve. I have another 3 weeks to decide if I'm keeping the droid. Whatever my decision will be, though, there is NO way that I would give up the BB. Hands down (for me) it destroys the droid when it comes to business needs and communication.

This post was made by Lunk to inform us of his choice of devices, not to fight back and forth between what is a toy an what not. Lets please keep this thread about the above topic. Thank you.
