If it is true that BIS Lite users are cut out of WiFi, it should be clearly stated on sign up. But based on what happened with your encounter with Maxis' technicians it is pretty obvious they themselves are not aware of it! How funny, but not surprising.

Its not stated. The only thing stated is that it's charged RM20/MB based as compared to full BIS package. So this means, it's possible for BIS Lite to connect to wifi. They themselves know my situation and even know that my service subscription is BIS Lite. So they want me to go klcc for them to check on my issue.

antnine,

all the best! Make sure they test out every possible scenario. Even your sim card. Just in case (a long shot, I know) but my SIM was the problem for me to connect to BIS in the 1st place. hehehe... a very old sim, dates back 10 years ago... hehehe...

One person in Maxis Cust Service that helped me out with my BOLD during launch day was Sylvester. See if you can speak to him, he's one of the most competent out there. :D

zahar,

spot-on!!! the veteran dude's got the same suspicions I had. Hmm... that may be true.

BIS Lite fellas: Sorry, seems Maxis has their own way of handling this. Revenue driven I would say. Nothing wrong with that, just that, students and peeps with tight pockets would cry foul. That's a shame. :(

If you want most out of the BOLD, suggest to sign-up for BIS+Data Package. Take the 1Mb option if you so choose to lower the costs. At most:

BIS: RM55 + Data: RM8 (5Mb) = RM63 (BB Usage)
Voice Plan: Maybe Value 50?
Total: RM113/mo (not bad)

What I have on my BOLD:

BIS: RM55 + Data 8Mb package: RM25
Voice Plan: Value150
Total: RM230/mo

What I have on my Curve

BES: RM138
Voice Plan: None, pay as you use

I'm testing out the 8Mb plan to see if I am able to exceed that. I've used it pretty rigorously this past few weeks. Can't wait for the next bill. If I don't exceed or better yet am under 5Mb, will change the Data Plan to RM8 for 5Mb. Wanna get my monthly usage 1st. Previously on my SE P1i, with Push e-mail (corp) and surfing, I rarely exceed 5Mb usage per month. Want to see if the BB is the same. BES is fixed anyways, so i don't bother. :D

I checked with Maxis, they know I'm using BIS Lite. They say I should be able to use. Still troubleshooting the matter. Maxis will cancel off all my subscription plans and reactivate it together to see it fixes the problem. They already changed the Sim card for me still its a no go.

anis,

great find. Will go over and get a screen protector. I'm using a makeshift one. Would be good to change to a BOLD designed one. :D

Went there 3 days in a row. No luck. But I got a great deal. So now I got waived for my usage between 6pm till 12am everyday. But yesterday I met a gorgeous lady attending me. Today I went and see her again and we chat awhile. :D Any TT sessions soon? :D

Try Celcom Blue Cube outlets. There are outlets in Subang Parade, Curve, Pavilion, and a host of other places.

On second thought, I do recall one of BB Msgr contact wanting to sell-off his bosses BOLD. Brand New... Interested? Not sure if still available though...

Hi Guys n Gals ( if any ) : Newbie here; got my Bold about a week ago. Loving every minute of it. My wife is getting jealous - like having a new gf always "playing" with it. Upgraded to Rogers 1.62 - working fine so far. Very impressed with the browser speed - anytime thrash my htc Touch Pro flat. Signup Maxis data unlimited plan - no pinch yet , wait till the bill come next month! A very impressive improvement over my previous 8707v ( had stopped using it more than a year)
