Guys,

Glad to see things are really active here, and really appreciate everyone sharing their knowledge and experience here. Hopefully we can meet up for a TT session one of these days, and even invite that attractive lady from Maxis (corporate engagement

Anyone using Garmin for BB ? I downloaded a trial version but have problems with the map. What I got was a black screen with the cursor continously running. When I tried to key in some address - all not found; the options on city were all American cities. I think the gps couldn't detect the loaction. There is not mich help on the website and the options on the menu in the software limited

Does Garmin have maps for Asia? Specifically Malaysia? I had thought it only had North America and parts of Europe only... I may be wrong... Can anyone shed some light?

i came across Garmin for 8707 but it needed to be paired with a GPS tracking device. Since Bold has GPS chipset built i strongly believe Garmin could easily fitted in. But then again, 8707 is running on OS4.2 and Bold is on OS4.6.. Maybe yes, maybe not..

In other words, gfunk11! lend me your Bold for my little experiment pls..

To illuminati and JonisertP, Welcome to the Community!!

Coolness! I've gotta get my hands on Gamin then. BB Maps is seriously limited in capability. Garmin seems to be able to provide more. Thanks for the update.

And yeah, why my BOLD la, use urs la... hehehe... No worries, I'm ok with experimenting. It's kind of fun. Want to maximize my BOLD's capabilities. :D

Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry is for North America only. It is using off-board navigation that is mapping data is stored on Garminxxx8217;s servers, not on the BlackBerry device itself.

Yes, Garmin does have map for South East Asia which includes Malaysia but cant be compared to Malsingmaps or MalFreeMaps (both are built based on Garmin platform) which is locally tracked and mapped.

They rang back to say what you guys were saying BUT they've allocated one for me for the November delivery apparently. We shall see if they call me up or not come mid-November.

Thanks for the info, haven't really explored GPS as much. So if I were to use Malsingmaps or MalFreeMaps and load it to Garmin would that work? How does it complement eachother?

they complementing through creating maps with garmin platform...so let say if you contribute 2 POIs (Point of Interest), then they will give you the latest updated map file that is usually named gmapsupp.img, but that file is usually to be loaded into NUVIs and also for WinMo's. Garmin for BB is all loaded from the server because we don't have the map preloaded into our BBB.

But I heard rumours stating that, since the BBB has a built in GPS and also has a SDcard slot, they might change the interface to be used like WinMo's and NUVIs without any data charge. Anyways, like I say it's just rumours. All we can do now is hope for the best.
