After reading the comments here I am going to avoid YouMail until a final version is out...

While I had initial success, things have gone down hill quick. Stick with VyMail, or PhoneTag, either does a much better job than the YouMail offered app.

I don't think the app is intended to download stored voicemails from the past...? It has been downloading new messages just fine for me so far. The uploading contacts thing sat "uploading" for about 10 minutes though so I aborted it. Could it be possible that this app and VyMail conflict when installed together? I don't have VyMail installed...

I have both YouMail and VyMail installed and since enabling media access for YouMail everything works fine with it except the contact upload. They are really similar applications and for the moment I am going to keep both installed.

I'm keeping Youmail. The GUI for VyMail was just plain awful. I'm not getting any (noticable) memory leaks. Maybe the upgrade this morning solved the problem that people were having with the 1st release??

I deleted the latest version and reinstalled and I no longer get the account access error. Haven't tried contacts yet.

Does any one know if it works with the 8900 (Javelin)?

The site says that the Storm isn't supported.

Downloaded the new version.... Now, it finally downloads the voicemails just fine and the bars turn green just like they should. They also got the over 4 digit pin problem fixed with this release.

BUT! Still when I click on the voicemail, all it does is bring up the menu instead of letting me listen to it.

Sigh..... So close, but yet...... so far..

You've granted the application media access rights, no?

Ok the .16 version is functioning. Contact uploads are working as well. Shows I have a new message but then when I click on the message nothing but the menu. I can't get the bar to turn green either it stays red. All permissions have been granted. Getting closer. I'll play around with it some more and report back.

Same issue. And yes, I have granted the application media access rights. Grrrr...
Deleting this version ~ waiting for improvements...

Default Worked & then didn't work....

I successfully downloaded the application to my Storm on 2/4/09. The application downloaded all of my voicemails from the YouMail server. The problem was that I could not play any of the messages.

Then about 4 hours later, the application no longer worked. Everytime I would try to launch the program, I would get the following error message: "Uncaught excpetion - java.lang.NullPointerException"

I did the battery pulls & uninstalled/reinstalled the application several times to no avail.

Any thoughts as to why it worked for awhile?

Thanks in advance.

I have tried both and neither one works. I checked the permissions for Youmail and all are set to "allow". Could it have anything to do with the firewall settings?

Downloaded the .16 version and it behaves the same as .14, it downloads them but the trackball click brings up a menu and doesn't play the VM as it should.

Yes I do have the permissions set correctly for it, even tried allowing everything just to cover all the bases.

Wonder if they'll be releasing more updates over the weekend?

From crackberry.com:
"YouMail's BlackBerry application was built entirely on top of its open API. The API allows developers to write their own applications that extend YouMail's offerings to handset applications, browser plug ins, widgets, and more. Further, the API provides revenue opportunities for developers through YouMail's affiliate program. This API is a first among existing voicemail applications and takes YouMail from a stand-alone service to a mobile platform. The open API is now in limited beta and to participate in the limited beta program, developers can contact YouMail with suggested application project details at [email address]."

Thanks for the post zGuy, but that is a direct quote from the YouMail Press Release, and while it explains how the VVM app was built, it doesn't explain how an independent developer was able to build a far better app (VyMail) on their own API.

True.
Perhaps it is time to give VyMail a try?...
Edit: VyMail didn't work properly either. Oh well, relying on SMS via YouMail for now will do.

VyMail just posted a beta update with significant feature additions to their BlackBerry client app @ joekrill.com - VyMail - YouMail application for Blackberry devices. You may wish to give it another try!
