Default New 8800 OS Features - POST here

Please Login to Remove!

Some of these may be on the Pearl too, but there are some things I really like.

For example, go in the phone app and where you would normally type numbers, if you type letters, then the address book comes up underneath, and then the phone numbers to scroll to and pick.

Here's a beware - if you are on the home screen and hit the menu button to see the list of apps, then you can't use speed dials. What you get are the home screen shortcuts.

Post your own.

Very Cool Dog. I can see I'll be using that shortcut. Thanks!

I am sure you guys know this by now. Instead of "turn off wireless antenna" now it's "manage network connection" in which you can further set up BT and GSM.

Profile has become more graphical, and redundantly slower.

Escape button will actually escape to the previous app, not the desktop. I believe on 8700c, when I hit escape in Browser, I will go back to desktop, instead of the program before I went to the browser. (I might got to the browser from app switching)

After escape from browser to something else, you can go back to browser by clicking "B" key, and the page that you left the browser at will still be there.
In 8700c the browser will *sometimes* lose that page and starts like a new session with the BB splash screen.

Hold the left-custom key, (hold, instead of click), will bring up address book. At least it does on mine, and I set it to "none," it still brings up address book.

Interesting... when I press and hold, it brings up the phone app.

Correct and you have to make sure that dial from home screen to be active if not then it is the short cut ( the pearl does not have the disable function). Also, one can assigne the speed dial key just like the 8700 by pressing and holding the letter key.

Moving from the 8700 to the pearl functions worked diferently but as I went along it became better. With all what went to teh 880 I see now why they only have one custome key which as said above the end result could very well depend on what is assigned to it. Will need to try it out. Mine is set for voice dial and comes up with the call log.

Assign different ringtones to a specific caller via the addressbook. So if they call from cell-home-work etc, you get that ring tone. Uses straight mp3s for ringtones also. Delete this post if this was on the 8700, I never saw or used it. :D

VOICEDIAL is very nice to have...via Bluetooth also.

No need to delete, but teh 8700 did have it and I used it big time. The pearl had some limitations. I still have not goten around to see if they are on the 8800 too.

Hmmm mine does nothing. Where can I configure this? I've already configured the left convenience key to open Profiles when clicked. Didn't see anything about holding it down though.

If I press and hold the green send key, I pull up the address book with Call: at the top.

MORE FEATURES!

In the browser, now you can have Desktop mode (scroll left and right like on a PC) and an iPhone like page overview with Zoom In screen.

When dialing a number, one can directly select "add to address" or "add pause" or "add wait." In 8700c one cannot add a number to address like that by typing the number first. One has to call that number, immediately hang up, go to call log, then add from call log.

Saved Searches now have 'unopened only' option under 'show'. I saved it as Alt U, so when i hit that, it brings up a list of all the unopened emails.

Found this today. While in a call, hit the space bar to bring up a new call window.

Set up a color background for enterprise vs personal email. Available from the Security configuration page.

I never saw it on the 8700, but in the pearl one can go to the voice mail section (Dial screen, options, voice mail and ond one can put the Vm pasword in there. It works well and it is available in the 8800.
