I have tried installing 2 different apps from different vendors (amazeGPS and TotalFitness) through the Desktop Manager and it keeps erroring out with the message: "No additional applications designed for your device were found."

In both cases I have placed source files in their respective folders on the desktop. From the DT, I go to the Application Loader applet | Add/Remove Application > Start. I then browse for the .alx file and select it. It then tries to load the program, before returning the error.

I run DT version 4.7.0.25 and OS V 4.6.1.94.

Any ideas?

You need to install the phone software package and then you will be able to add apps through DM.

Adamsbrian, what software package are you referring to? I went through the available SW to be installed from the CD that came with the device. Beside the DT, I only saw the Userguide, BB101, SW License agreement and such. Please let me know the name and where I can get what you are talking about.

If you are running Windows on your computer, go to My Computer>Local Disk>Program Files>Common Files>Reseach In Motion. If you do not see a file with your current Blackberry OS version in the name, follow the steps in this link to add this file to your computer:

Thanks for your response, ndub. I did check that folder for a file with my OS version in its name. Didn't find it! What I don't understand is why I need to change/reload the OS on the device and how this can help with the missing file on my PC.

BTW, I'm running 4.6.1.94, which is the same version your link is pointing to.

You don't need to reload the OS, you can click cancel to doing any upgrade or OS reload. You just must have the OS Software package installed on the PC that has Desktop Manager to be able to load apps to the phone. It's required.

The OS Package wasn't included on the CD it was just released a few days ago.
If you go to the Main "General 8900 Series Discussion" and at the top there is "Latest 8900 OS", just follow that and install the OS on the same PC that has your Desktop manager, then when you hook up your device the first time cancel to doing any "updates" and you will then be able to load apps using the Desktop Manager App Loader.

You will also now be able to remove specific portions of your OS to save space with items you would not normally use.

Hey guys, really appreciate your help. That did it! Would have never known about this by myself. But what the heck! Why separate such core piece of software from the rest of the package and then release it anonymously. Not a wise decision!

Just like how they release the 8900 and no accessories... not wise at all.... but you cant blame the carriers for that, thats RIMs fault that no accessories as here yet...

Indeed Cory, I don't believe the carriers had anything to do with this. RIM's releases seem to have been a little on the sloppy side the last couple of times. In a way BlackBerry reminds me of a Porsche having a high performance engine and outstanding handling, but with a crappy AC, leaky roof and poor documentation.
