having issues with my handheld in regards to signal strength and wireless network availability. used it for a year or so but i guess the handheld device's internal components have been damaged.? anyways, looking for any advice regarding what device i should get? pearl...curve...what will best replace my 8700c? thanks for any advice.

I bought my wife a Curve and she loves it. I steal it from her when ever I get the chance, and when it's time for an upgrade that is what I will be getting.

It depends on what you want. Full keyboard or Reduced keyboard. GPS or no GPS. Camera, no camera, etc.

Coming from a full keyboard I would go with the Curve - that's what I did anyway. The trackball takes a bit to get used to but I think you'll like it.

I like (at times) the smaller Pearl keyboard, but there are times I also like the full keyboard (when I am typing proper names and such that are not yet in my custom dictionary).

That being said, go with the device that meets what you want (I hear size does matter to some people, too )

any input on the signal strength of either pearl or curve as opposed to 8700c? anyone formerly have 8700c and see noticeable difference (better or worse) with pearl or curve?

I personally don't see any difference between the two. 8700 and Curve are both on AT&T/Cingular. Same reception strength on both.

do either the curve, pearl or 880 come with a holster or are they only able to be carried in a case?

They don't come with any holster or case - atleast none of mine did... I did buy RIM holsters for the Pearl and the Curve though.

Compare the features and pick the one that suits you best. ;)

I had an 8700C and i had good service in the beginning but... welll it soon turned into gsm ALWAYS so i got the curve and its great

before you buy anything i want to ask have you done any OS upgrades sometimes if you upgrade to a differnt verison your signal will not be the same. i have some nokia 9300 and 9500 the signal sucked after i did a fresh format on the phones had to send them out to get the firmware upgraded. also if you are going to buy a new phone and u are going from 8700c to a pearl its a little differnt because you dont have the full keyboard. i am so used to the keyboard i cant live with out it. if you want to listen to music and watch movies on your phone going with the 8300 the 8800 just fells nicer in my hand because its a little wider and heavy. hope this helps

no, i haven't done any upgrades. it seems my phone just doesn't pick up a wireless signal very well anymore. i lose calls and have no signal sometimes when other users with me with the same carrier (at&t) have good signals. i think it is just the handheld but thanks for input. i am leaning toward 8820, as i don't need the camera on other more popular, less professional models.

I never really liked my 8700c. Pearl is heaps better than it.

Again, it's personal preference. Some like SureType. I can't stand it. There's no way that I'd ever prefer the Pearl over the 8700c. YMMV.

If you LOVE your 8700 and would like to replace it with something most similar, but an upgrade, then curve is the closest resemblance due to spaced keyboard. The ball took me a long time to get used to, and to this day, I still prefer trackwheel!
