How long ago was this? Pull the battery out and DO NOT put it back in. See:

Got Your BlackBerry Wet? - BlackBerryFAQ

If you follow these instructions there is a good chance the device will live. If it was recently in the water and you already put the battery back in your chances just went down.

You need to remove the battery for at least a week before you fry the BB if you didn't already...

Sounds like you mentally handicaped your BlackBerry. Probably not much you can do to save it at this point.

another good way to try it quickly is putting the bb or any phone for that matter into a bag of rice fully submerged

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700c)

Glad to hear that's it's not completely handicaped. I'm sure that minor issue can be dealt with.

when one of my users did the same. i took it all apart, and put in the back server room, which is enclosed and air conditioned 24/7. it took 3 days for the screen to stop flickering and 4 days to fully dry. i also had to get a replacement microphone.

Thanks

I worked all day today, and it rained all day, and I kept my BB in my jeans pocket for 98% of the time. My pocket was slightly damp after being in the rain for 10 hours. Now I am having a problem with my keyboard not working. It powers on and can scroll but the keyboard doesn't work.

I am drying it out right now with the battery out, but the question I'm itching to ask is... I didn't realize the phone stopped working, and by my estimates the battery had been in the phone without me realizing it had stopped working. So the battery was in the phone for about four hours (idle) until I realized it stopped working. How bad are my chances of my best friend's survival if the battery was in there that long?

Remove the battery and bury everything (phone and battery) in a bowl of rice. We did that once and it worked like a charm. After two days, everything worked just fine.
