Will 9600 becoming to AT&T?

Its too soon for me to know the word around the at&t network of people, but I was hoping that maybe one of yall would know.

Wirelessly posted (MY 8900)

There is no confirmed info on carrier.

Btw, what does your question have to do with gsm/hsdpa/edge?

Probably not.

The GSM radio (like that in the 8830) doesn't work on AT&T's network. Also, you'd be lugging around a CDMA radio which would be useless for AT&T. If you want the 9600 for AT&T, you should probably get a Bold - they're basically the same with slightly different dimensions. They're "sister" devices.

Incorrect. The 9600 and 9530 contain GSM radios that will work on North American carriers like at&t and T-Mobile.

Teaches me for assuming.... from the spec sheet:

8830: 900/1800 MHz GSM radios (Europe/Asia)
9630: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM radios (NA/EU/Asia) and 2100 MHz UMTS/HSPA

So the real question here is what will happen if I go into an area with AT&T service but no VZW service... will I hop on the AT&T network?

However, I'm still assuming the Tour will never come to AT&T/TMobile - it would be useless to carry around that CDMA radio (instead of WiFi).

No, you will not roam on a GSM network as it would require a properly provisioned SIM card.

So if I put my AT&T SIM card in the Tour - what happens then?

I survived with an 8830 with 48 MB of memory for a loooong time... I am currently living with 96 MB on my Curve, I could easily live with 128 and above memory.

AT&T also has the 8900 don't they? Same specs as the Tour without the 3G but the 8900 Curve has Wifi.. So it's a small trade off.

Okay, I admit I'm not a whiz with all this network stuff. There are sellers on eBay who have advertised an unlocked Tour that can be useed with any of the major carriers, T-Mobile and Verizon. I want to get a Tour (I'm with Verizon right now) and if I get one through these sellers on eBay, will I be able to use it on Verizon until my contract expires and switch it to T-Mobile?

Thank you.

Yes, that correct. You could have the device unlocked and use it on T-Mobile when you decide to leave Verizon.

Thank you for the information. What if I bought a Tour from Verizon....would I later be able to use it on T-Mobile as well?

Yes, if you have the device unlocked you will be able to use it on other carriers. Just as there are users with the Verizon Storm on AT&T and T-Mobile.

Sweet. Thank you for your help. eBay/Verizon, may the least expensive seller win.
