It probably takes the Verizon 'R&D' people a year to come up with a fancy cover to hide the SIM Card slot (just like on my 8703e), and to talk with Qualcomm about some goofy CDMA Chip that will b@stardize all of the functions and speed the GSM versions of the 8800 will be capable of.

Default A year?

So if it takes a year after GMS launch for a Verizon CDMA launch how long ago did T-Mobile release the Pearl? I know they had an exclusive on it for awhile. 6 months? 9 months ago? I don't remember.

Consumer Reports and every other organization that has studied coverage and reliability of cellular carriers have come to the same conclusion -- Verizon is best.
Well, I'm certainly not a Cingular shill, but I've traveled the country extensively also, to the tune of about 2.7 million miles on AA, and for the most part have had great Cingular coverage. And its certainly false to say that "EVERY organization that has studied coverage" says Verizon is best - there are competing claims from all of them - Cingular's research was done by Telephia, "the world's largest provider of syndicated consumer research to the telecom and mobile media markets." I think in particular since they completed the AT&T integration, just in the last couple quarters, that Cingular's coverage has improved quite significantly in a number of areas.

Truth be told, the last 2 years of comparative analysis that Consumer Reports published concluded that TMobile was best in every region of the US. Prior to that, Verizon was prominent.

Any chance you guys could take this up in the Rants and Raves section? I'd like to keep this thread open for information on a Verizon 8800. I'll probably upgrade when it's available.

I PM'd Pizzle and apologized and told him to feel free to remove my post - I hadn't seen his request when I made my reply. OTOH, I think you've got a LONG wait for an 8800 on Verizon - hope you're happy with what you're using now for at least another year or more!

With some MAJOR reading between the rumor lines scattered across the Net, and the rumor that VZW is testing 8800's in NY/NJ, along with the RIM 8800 production numbers (2x Pearl), something in my gut is telling me that Verizon COULD be quick to market with the 8800 this time...

I'm trying to convince myself that the 8703e I JUST GOT will not be obsolete three months from now...

But I'm not convinced that the 8800 is the device for me. I suspect the keyboard is going to be too narrow...

If they'd just put voice dialing on the 8703e, I think I'd be satisfied with the 8703e...

Huh? Speed? CDMA EVDO... GSM EDGE... End of story...

Facts, not rants please.

Guys...we're getting dangerously close to avoiding the topic completely. I appreciate the PM, DallasFlier...It seems like we're sorrrrrrta back on topic, so we can see where this goes. KEEP IT ON TOPIC.

You all are free to rant and rave about who's carrier is better in the appropriate forum. But NOT HERE.

The 8800 on Verizon is a legitimate topic. I'd hate to see it closed because no one can keep their carrier in their pants.

Thanks.

Soon, VZW's only other BB offering will be the antiquated 7130. If VZW was to bring the 8800 to market in the short-term (doubtful, unless they've had it in testing for 6+ months already), it would give them a significant advantage over Sprint.

Thanks DF. Yeah I'm happy with my 8703e for now. I had to switch from 8700/Cingular due to company contracts. So I can wait for the 8800. But a full year? Not sure I can wait that long.

All I know is I love the BB. Don't care who the provider is. Would love to see the 8800 "crimson" come to VZW.

Exclamation Release 2nd Quarter 2007

Verizon will be releasing a new international blackberry. My sources say "It will be smaller/slimmer" then the 8703e. They also say it isn't a Pearl or Crimson. They were not willing to elaborate any furthure. My only hope is that it will have a camera. It is scheduled for release the 2nd quarter of 2007.
