I am a user in a 100+ users BES environment.
I have some problems to understand the concept of GAL+BES.
I know the "look up"-method to find users in the GAL.
How can i see the contact details (name) of a GAL-user´s incoming call? I don´t know who´s calling me from inside the company if the GAL does not sync with my bb. From the point of usability: why it is more difficult to phone/email to a external user (type some letters to see the results) than to a colleague inside the company (type some letters AND touch a special icon)?
Sure, every employee can double the GAL frequently (fluctuation) into his contact list for offline-syncing.
Is this the GAL-concept of RIM in year 2011?
If not, where I can find the hidden button in the BES-Admin Interface to sync the GAL for selected (or all) users?
@radhaz75: TNX for your constructive answer!
I thought about large companies. There are some possible solutions:
1) You could sync the GAL as an option for small and midsize companies. It could be a checkbox in BES software. This feature wouldn´t be useful for large companies.
2) If there is no data connection to perform a lookup, you can use caching strategies: the device software could use the "last connection" information.
For Small/Midsize companies, what I've done is create a Public Contact Folder and a few people in the HR department maintain that contact list.
BlackBerry users have the option of syncing that Public Contact Folder to their handheld.
(There might even be tools to do an auto-sync between the GAL and the PCF.)
