Adding my $0.02 USD: I wiped the 8320 and installed 4.5.0.69, no restore of any prefs or databases beyond trivial items. Both BB Maps and Google Maps 2.2.3 work without any problems, I haven't done anything except fill in my APN. T-Mo unlimited data plan (the special 1000mins+BIS+SMS+Data $60 plan).
All other Solutions as outlined here did not work with this device, it refused to install BBmaps 1.2 but,
I finally got BBMaps working with my german Vodafone branded 8310:
Maybe this helps someone else having a similar problem.
How:
Removed BBMaps using the apploader from the device,
then renamed net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_de.cod to net_rim_bb_lbs_resource_en.cod and vice versa.
Started apploader, and, this time it installed the full BBMaps
Works now like it should.
Maybe I just missed it, but I don't see anywhere that someone has done this on the 8830. I updated to 4.5.0.77 but can't get GoogleMaps to even show up for me to download when I go to the link SMS'ed to me by Google. I had 2.0 (or 2.3) when I had 4.2.2.196, but it's gone now. I can revert to BBMaps for now, but like Google Maps better.
orion thanks this worked for me got bb maps working on my att 8310 .now i will have to work on google i get file to download on my bb but then it doesnot load the maps
I just checked with my Admin, and we don't use any Application Control policies. So is the only way to get this working on 4.5 to do the downgrade and reinstall? (There's not a specific BES version of this, is there?
Halleluiah!! GMM WORKS AGAIN and Ixxx8217;ve got xxx8220;My Locationxxx8221; back!! Thank you Google! Now I can delete the bloat ware BBMaps from my 8320. I may keep Microsoft Live Search around because I like the Movie Showtime search.
GMM 2.X is the 8320's killer app. I use it all the time for local searches and phone numbers. I am much happier now that it's working on my berry again.
I tested the new version of GMM on my Bold last night - works like a charm! The download screen noted my BlackBerry Model number and offered up the lastest build of GMM to me.
Interestingly enough the "Google Mobile Updater" didn't offer the new version to me.
NOTE, however, that Google has a disclaimer on their site that basically says "This is a very data intensive application. We strongly suggest you have an unlimited data plan". (Not the case with Rogers, sadly, but perhaps the rest of the civilised world could use it?)
