My Cingular store said they "could" bend some rules if you were 19 months in your 2 year contract.

well I called like 5 stores in San Diego, 4 say sometime this week and 1 had them but tomorrow in the a.m. I can pick up, the prices iw as told

(with contract or upgrade)349+the tax on 499 and then -the rebate

for me, since I work for ATT, its 499 - 30% off + the tax on 499 no rebate, but thats w/o a contract for me (it will roughly cost me like 390)

It's not bending the rules. It's when you become eligible for an upgrade again.

With a new contract I paid $299 - they gave me the discounted price since the rebate is not yet available ($349 w/o discount) but from what I'm hearing from some, I may be able to ship the rebate in once it becomes available. Here's hoping!

They said $499 MSRP.

Google apps aren't working but I can't wait to load the maps!

Got mine at 1:00 on Preston south of the Bush in Big D today. I got a sweet deal... $249 + tax no contract because of my company's contract with Cingular. Feel pretty lucky. Flabergasted that bbmaps doesn't come pre-installed. At least I didn't find it. I found a link and loaded it and it worked with the built-in GPS. Pretty freekin sweet. Frustrated that google maps doesn't work yet although I am sure they will have it going in just a few days. Interesting point. I plugged it into my Vista Ultimate machine with Desktop Manager 4.2 non sp1 version and it Bluescreened (first time this has happened to my Vista box.) Let me know if you want me to test anything.

Default Blue Screen

I had Desktop Version 4.2 installed on my Vista Business Laptop. It too blue-screened.

I uninstalled & re-installed with disk that came with the 8800. It installed "desktop version 4.2.1.6". I did a synch with my 8800 and so far no blue screen. Hopeflly it will not do it again.

My Cingular rep in Iowa City, IA has one on hold for me to pick up tomorrow morning. But, I'm torn. Just switched to Cingular and a Pearl from Sprint and an 8703e. Before that, I had the 7130e on Sprint. I upped to the 8703 because I really didn't like the overall bulk and thickness of the 7130. SureType was ok (actually liked the bigger buttons), but also liked the full QWERTY on the 8703.

Now, I'm on the fence. I really like the Pearl's size, but definitely miss the GPS functionality of the 8703. Again, SureType really doesn't bother me so QWERTY vs. SureType is not a major issue. I guess it boils down to having the latest, greatest BB out there or "settling" for the next to latest, greatest. And overall size of the device/screen.

Oh, and I'm still well within my 30-day return period on the Pearl. Decisions, decisions.

What do y'all think?

After going all over Manhattan today and dealing with a couple nice... but more nastier employees, I finally got one. Of course the only way I could get one was to open a contract. I think I'm going to cancel in a couple of days. So far so good - I can't wait to play with it!

FYI - I am sure most know this but I figured I'd reiterate it!

I was just reading over my "Temporary" Cingular contract and noticed that although you have 30 days to terminate without penalty, you only have three (3) days to cancel and also get back your activation fee.

The exact words are:

--------------------------
"Activation/Upgrade fee not refundable after 3 days (excluding national holidays)"
...

"If you cancel service within the return period but do not return the equipment within the return period or if equipment is not returned in like-new condition, you may be charged the full retail price of the equipment."

--------------------------

Be sure you read the link at 30-Day Return Policy | Cingular Wireless real good.

So for those that have "temporary" contracts like me , ensure you are aware of that and also that you will be charged for any services you use while "temporary". I turned my 8800 off at the store right after I got my confirmation txt msg. Hopefully I can unlock it tonight, and call and cancel tomorrow (and wait for the bill with remaining retail price!)

Get Google Maps OTA from this link: http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4....00_v4_0_L1.jad

Make sure you copy the entire link by selecting copy shortcut -- this one displays concatenated.

2. $549 + Tax Before $50 rebate - Mas90guru
3. $399 + Tax (no idea on rebate?) - Phonemonkey

Contract:
1. $349 + Tax after $50 rebate - andrej70 + jfulen (upgrade?)
2. $299 + tax after $50 rebate
No had the pearl but the earpiece wouldn't work. So I took it back and paid $50 plus a $50 rebate.

That happened to me with 6 months to go on my 2 year contract. It doesn't surprise me. It gets these Cingular customers on ice for another 2 years before they start thinking of switching. So one shouldn't assume that you can't get a deal on your 8800 because your contract is still running.

If they require a current account to do it.. do they just need a phone number if paying retail, or do they need ID and all?

Just want to make sure I clarify - I paid $349 to upgrade my phone. I have the $50 rebate form in my hands - once I send the rebate form in I will have paid $299.

That why I said "could" bend bend the rules. These people think we are stupid.

He offered to move my service from my 8700 to the 8800 if I would leave it with him for a few hours. I had it all done with sync completed in 10 minutes
